Hello Glennwood Families,
I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week! It has been such a joy to see the Read-a-thon momentum continuing through our hallways -there is a special kind of magic in the air when so many students are excited to share what they’re discovering in their books.
As we look toward the weekend, it looks like we might have some true "winter" weather heading our way. With a potential ice storm in the forecast, I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and extra warm! This is the perfect excuse to hunker down, break out the board games, and, of course, curl up with a great book. Whether you’re reading for the Read-a-thon or just for fun, I hope you enjoy the cozy time with your families.
Speaking of sharing your voice, I am incredibly proud to announce that we are now at 72% participation for our GaDOE School Climate Survey! We are officially only 8% away from hitting our big 80% goal. We are so close! However, while looking at the data, I noticed that we still have 19 families who have started the survey but haven't quite crossed the finish line.
Please, if you haven’t already, take a quick moment to ensure you’ve hit that final SUBMIT button so your feedback counts. I’d also love for you to check in with your friends and neighbors in the Glennwood Crew to see if they’ve had a chance to participate yet. We only need a few more families to help us reach our target and ensure our school’s data truly reflects our amazing community. Let's see if we can knock that goal out of the park before Monday! I’ve included the link here for easy access!
Finally, just a quick calendar reminder that next Wednesday, January 28th, is an Early Release Day. Please make sure you have your dismissal plans ready as we prepare for a shorter school day for our students. On another note, please be sure to keep up to date on your emails this coming weekend as we get updates on the possible developments with the upcoming weather.
Stay safe, stay warm, and keep on soaring (and reading)!
In partnership,
Bill Howard
Proud Principal, Glennwood Elementary
TONIGHT! HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
The first week back after holiday break, Kindergarteners received a lesson on anxiety called Ice-Cream Meltdown! We read a book called The Adventures of Sir Squiggle and the What-If-Worry Wiggle to learn a strategy for dealing with our worries. Then we played an ice cream game while answering questions related to the topic.
Last week in 2nd grade, I began a lesson on peer pressure. We started with a peer pressure true or false quiz to see what students knew about peer pressure. We then brainstormed situations in which students may experience peer pressure as well as methods that others may use to negatively influence them. We then learned some tools and strategies to deal with peer pressure.
This week, I'm beginning a lesson on integrity and making good choices. We are reading a book from the Teach Your Dragon series on integrity. We are then playing a choose your own adventure game on Making Good Choices in Kindergarten. In first and second grades, we will look at various scenarios on different topics, such as honesty, kindness, fairness, responsibility, and courage.
What's Happening in Art?
K-2 artists are working on creating self-portraits in art. Students begin by creating an abstract background with monoprinting. The background is then layered with either collographs and their portrait (K) or a poem about themselves and their portrait (1st & 2nd). Ask your artist what they like most about printmaking!
Change of a Community Circle Date to February 13th!

Take GaDOE's Annual School Climate Survey
Please take a moment this week to make your voice heard and participate in the Georgia Department of Education climate survey for your school! Your participation and feedback are greatly appreciated. The data collected will help determine the School Climate Star Ratings for the 2026-27 school year, which will enable schools to improve or build upon their successes.
