Week Two Notes

Dear Viking Families,

What a wonderful first week of school we had! Our students did an outstanding job learning routines, practicing expectations, and showing what it means to be kind and positive Vikings. We are so proud of the way they are already building a welcoming and supportive school community.

As we move into Week Two, I want to thank you for partnering with us and for helping to make the start of the year such a success. Keeping communication open and respectful between home and school is so important, and we deeply value working together with you to ensure each child’s growth and success.

Thank you again for a fantastic Week One. With the strong start we’ve had, I am confident that Week Two will bring even more learning, joy, and connection for our students.

With Viking Pride,

Mrs. Love

Pick Ups: Please note that when you park in guest parking and get out of the car to pick up your child, we ask that you stand behind our cones near the grass so that we are not crowding the exit. We are trying to get hundreds of students out those doors at the same time safely and to the correct adults. Please notify our staff at the cones who you are picking up and we will bring your child(ren) to you. This will ensure all students are accounted for. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

Walkers & Bikers: If you are picking up your child with a vehicle, please pick them up in the Loop. We do not wish to have extra vehicle traffic in the walker area to keep all of our kids safe. Thanks for your help with this matter!

Bus Riders: Please continue to review bus expectations with your children!

Teaching Expectations
This week, our staff and students focused on learning and reviewing expectations in three important areas: the cafeteria, playground, and bus. By teaching and practicing together, we are helping students understand how to be respectful, take ownership, and make wise choices.

Viking Value of the Trimester: RESPECT
Our first Viking Value for the school year is RESPECT. We will focus on this Viking Value in all areas of the building.

Celebrating Success
We are excited to begin recognizing students who demonstrate our Viking Values! Our first weekly winners will be announced and celebrated on Monday, September 8th. Every student will have the chance to be nominated throughout the year, and we can’t wait to see how our Vikings grow!

To start the school year, all DES students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch through September 30th when we hope to have more information on the state's budget. More information will be shared to families as we receive it from the state.

It is still very important to complete the free and reduced application forms in your back to school paperwork, regardless of your qualification status. This application process is essential for the district as it helps secure vital funding from the state and federal sources. Regardless of your income, please fill out this application. Thank you for your help with this matter!
