🌄Adventure Awaits: Let's Move Mountains🌄
NEVER MISS A MONDAY:
VIES History Bowl
Tuesday was Valley's 16th annual History Bowl for 4th grade and we had lots of great competition. Crystal Peek who developed this program for Washington County students explained that her biggest goal for students is to take ownership of being a Virginian. The students spend weeks and hours studying the Virginia Studies materials that follows the Virginia SOL guidelines to help them learn about Virginia's past and how this country was founded in our students' front yard. Crystal said she was proud of Valley's students for how hard they work learning and remembering their materials, but most of all the sportsmanship they showed throughout competing. Overall, Valley's students were able to learn so many lessons through this wonderful program, from Virginia's history to being a kind competitor. "They are so knowledgeable, everyone on the team participated across all teams. They know this and they will walk out of 4th grade having a real understanding and appreciation for VA. [They will know] where we've been and where we're going," said Crystal Peek. Congratulations to: Nyjah W., Andrew S., Sadie E., and Langston B. Good luck at districts April 15th!
📖 THANK YOU 📘 MRS. HARMAN! 📚
Happy National School Librarian Day to Mrs. Harman!
Please give a huge, happy "School Librarian Day" to our amazing Mrs. Harman. Mrs. Harman has been the VIES school librarian for 4 years and before that she was the 5th grade Language Arts teacher. She has been a wonderful adventure guide to all of our students who take hundreds of journeys everyday through her magical books. Not only does she guide and educate our students, but she has taken on the role 'mentor' when new employees start here at VIES.
Harman inspires and instills a passion for literacy and STEM in even our smallest Valley students who she helps spin magical realms for through her theatrical readings and passion.
She has led the Robotics team two state the past two years as the Robotics Team Coach. She has also taught the students about nurturing your roots in your community through yearly projects, like last year's Veterans' Project. Each 5th grader interviewed and created a presentation on a local veteran. Thank you Mrs. Harman for bringing a lot of magic to our little valley and Happy School Librarian Day.
