Message from the Principal
Dear FNE Families,
As we move into April, we are excited to see the continued growth happening across our campus. Each grade level has set meaningful goals for students, and we are challenging every child to work toward their personal best. From building strong sight word recognition in our early grades, to strengthening math fact fluency, to showing measurable growth in reading and math aligned to STAAR expectations, our students are putting in the work and it shows.
This month is especially important for our 3rd–5th grade students, as they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning and growth through the STAAR assessments taking place throughout April. We are confident in their preparation and proud of the effort they have shown all year.
To support success, we are continuing to encourage students to build strong study habits:
- Review mistakes- Growth happens when students understand why they were wrong.
- Use active study methods: Flashcards, Teaching a friend, Writing summaries
- Set small, clear goals Example: “Today I’ll master fractions” instead of “study math.”
- Ask for help early: Teachers, tutors, or peers-don’t wait.
- Use your resources: Don’t study alone—use the tools that support your learning: Class notes, Anchor charts, Manipulatives, Graphic organizers, Study guides and teacher materials
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these habits at home. Encouragement, consistent routines, and a positive mindset make a powerful difference. Let’s continue to work together as a team to support our students in giving their very best and finishing the year strong. We believe in every student’s ability to succeed, and with your support, we know they will rise to the challenge.
Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our school community.
Expect nothing less but the best, we are FNE!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Cruz

Testing on campus- No Visitors
During the month of April, our campus will administer several assessments for students in grades 3–5. To minimize disruptions and maintain test security, we have "No visitors" for April 6-23.
We also kindly ask families to support a strong testing environment by ensuring students have good attendance, arrive on time, and avoid early checkouts on testing days.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
STAAR testing reminders
We can show our support by helping them prepare for a good testing day. Here’s how you can help your child do their best.
Offer positive words of encouragement. Praise your child for their hard work and encourage them to put forth their best effort.
Ensure students bring their glasses (if needed).
Do not bring backpacks to school. They will not be needed during testing days.
Make sure your child gets plenty of rest. Limit their use of video games and TV watching and put them to bed early.
Be on time. The tardy bell rings at 7:25. Breakfast served 7:00-7:25
Keep cell phones at home. All student cell phones will be collected prior to testing and returned once all testing is complete. If it is necessary to contact you, our staff will do so. Students are subject to discipline for use of these devices during testing. Use of personal mobile technology devices during testing could result in the invalidation of student test scores.
Visitations to any grade level on campus will not be allowed the entire school day in which a STAAR test is being administered. Contact with teachers through Class Dojo and phone etc. may be limited during the day as several teachers will be assisting with administration of STAAR tests.
Please limit early outs for emergencies only as every student must complete the test in the same day it was started.

Capturing Kids Heart
At FNE, relationships come first—and that’s why we are proud to be a 4x Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Campus! This recognition reflects our commitment to creating a campus where every student feels valued, safe, and connected.
This month’s Capturing Kids’ Hearts Family Newsletter highlights Perseverance, encouraging students to keep going even when things feel difficult, stay committed to their goals, and learn from challenges along the way. Together, we can help children develop this important life skill by reminding them that mistakes are part of learning, supporting them through setbacks, and celebrating their effort and determination. This month’s activities are designed to spark meaningful conversations about perseverance and empower children as they build resilience, confidence, and a growth mindset. Each month, you will receive a newsletter from your school and Capturing Kids’ Hearts that aligns with a monthly character focus. These newsletters include ideas, challenges, and activities to help you connect, reflect, and grow as a family. Each family newsletter will:
- Define and explain the focused character trait for the month.
- Provide you with ideas and activities to help you grow your child’s character.
- Equip you with conversation starters you can use to talk with your child and make their learning personal and relevant. Get started this month with the first family newsletter. We are excited to be on this journey with you! We are BETTER Together, Your Friends at Capturing Kids’ Hearts
