Band Placement Auditions (for current 6th and 7th grade band students)

Band Placement is Monday and Tuesday! Please make sure your child has prepared so that we hear their best effort. This playing assignment will serve as a test grade for all 6th and 7th grade students and help decide which band class returning students will be in for the 24-25 school year. The majority of work on this music should be done outside of band class.

Results will be shared in a couple of weeks!

HS Band Screening for current 8-11 grade band students:

Process:

  • Performances will take place during class time on May 13th-17th, 2024.

  • All rising 9th-12th grade students, regardless of their course choices will play.

  • Students will play 32 measures of any piece that they have studied this school year.

  • Students may choose to perform with or without a metronome.

Music Selection Guidelines:

  • Choose music that demonstrates your strengths as a musician.

  • Playing a combination of technical and lyrical material is helpful in the evaluation. You may choose 16 measures from a maximum of 2 different pieces or phrases to accomplish this.

  • Choose music that does not include rests for more than 1 entire measure.

Grading:

  • Students will receive feedback based upon the attached rubric.

  • All students who perform will receive full credit.

  • Classes will be formed, communicated to the LHS Counseling Department and communicated through the normal procedures.

Last Thursday and Friday, many of out 6th, 7th and 8th grade students visited Golden Age Home, Parkview Nursing Home and Chisholm Trail Nursing and Rehab center. Our students played some of the solo and ensemble music and took time to talk to the audience. We had a great time and thank the facilities and their residents for their time and we look forward to visiting again soon!

Summer Enrichment Opportunities

Are you looking for a way for your child to continue playing their instrument over the summer? Consider sending them to Band Camp at Texas Universities! Students who attend university band camps get to play challenging music, meet students from around the state and area, work with university faculty members and have fun! These camps are extra events, not to be confused with the LHS Summer Band or the LJHS Summer Band that take place in late July and August. Camps fill up quickly so if you are interested in sending your child to camp, don't wait to register.
