YOUR FRESHMEN MAY 2026 STUDENT OF THE MONTH--EMMA AUSRA!! YOUR FRESHMEN MAY 2026 STUDENT OF THE MONTH--EMMA AUSRA!!

My favorite teacher is Ms. Boswell, with Mrs. Hunt being a close second. Ms. Boswell always makes her classes fun and welcoming. She is kind, cares about all of her students, and always checks on people if they seem upset to make sure they are okay. My favorite class is Marine and Freshwater because it is a smaller class made up of students from all four grades, which makes it more interesting. This year, I played soccer, starting on JV and finishing the season in the varsity lineup while also playing in several other varsity games. In my free time, I enjoy painting, riding my dirt bike and four-wheeler, and attending races at tracks like Thunderbird, I-96, and Crystal. After high school, I would like to attend college and enter the medical field, possibly in psychology or something involving animals. I am proud to be a Watervliet Panther because our school has amazing staff members who make sure students have what they need and genuinely care about them.

One of my favorite teachers is Mrs. Hollandsworth because she is always looking out for me and supporting me. My favorite class is History because we always have really good conversations and make jokes together. This year, I played both softball and basketball, which kept me very involved in school activities. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing softball. After high school, I would like to go into nursing and eventually become a midwife. One of the things I enjoy most about school is getting to talk with teachers and seeing smiles on everyone’s faces each day.

YOUR SOPHOMORE MAY 2026 STUDENT BRANDEN SAUCEDO!! YOUR SOPHOMORE MAY 2026 STUDENT BRANDEN SAUCEDO!!

My favorite teacher and class is Mr. Dennison because he is very nice and teaches me how to use tools that I have never used before. Making projects in his class is a lot of fun. It can be hard work, but it is always enjoyable.

Unfortunately, I was not involved in any clubs, activities, or sports this year, but hopefully next year I will join a sport or club. I wanted to participate in wrestling, but I was unable to join because I did not have transportation to and from practice. Next year, I hope to be able to participate.

In my free time, I enjoy drawing, researching plants, and learning about history. One skill I would like to learn is how to play the guitar.

After high school, my plan is to find a job, attend college, complete my degree, and then pursue a career in my chosen field.

I am proud to be a WHS Panther because I am surrounded by amazing people.

YOUR SOPHOMORE MAY 2026 STUDENT OF THE MONTH --MARISSA CROTTS!! YOUR SOPHOMORE MAY 2026 STUDENT OF THE MONTH --MARISSA CROTTS!!

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Hunt. She is very kind and always finds a way to make things interesting. She is generous and lenient with due dates if you use your time wisely. Her projects are always fun, and she always wants you to try something new, even if you don't execute it well.

My favorite class has been art because it's a chill class. It's nice to experiment with different things and create various projects. It’s also nice to see other people's artwork. I think the most rewarding part is getting to use your own ideas, work with various materials, and keep your project.

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, especially when it's a nice day. Other than that, I like to play with my cats or just relax in my room making crafts, listening to music, and watching shows, especially with my friend.

After high school, I plan to go to Lake Michigan College. I'm not sure what I want to study yet. I want to find a subject I'm interested in that isn't too complicated. I look forward to not having to worry about school for a period of time, and to going to new places and trying new things, especially with my friends.

I'm proud to be a WHS Panther because I've found great friends here, and there are staff members who try to make every day as easy as possible.

YOUR JUNIOR MAY 2026 STUDENT OF THE MONTH --CLAIRE MOORE!! YOUR JUNIOR MAY 2026 STUDENT OF THE MONTH --CLAIRE MOORE!!

My favorite teacher has always been Mrs. Hollandsworth, as she is not only a fantastic teacher, but also a generally compassionate, supportive, and insightful individual.

It's hard to pick a favorite high school class when I've had so many great experiences, but I have always enjoyed and favored history the most, no matter what.

Over the past few years, I've been involved in the Student Advisory Council, Student Council, and various band programs.

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, especially going out to towns, parks, and beaches with them.

After high school, I'm planning to attend a four-year college and earn a bachelor's degree, possibly in environmental science.

I'm proud to be a WHS Panther because we have a good community of students and staff members who care for and support each other both academically and personally.

Mr. Adongo is one of my favorite teachers because he always makes sure we understand what he is teaching. He slows down and goes over things again if we do not understand. Mr. Adongo is also really nice, and he tries his hardest, which really shows.

Mr. Weber is also one of my favorite teachers because he gives us time to finish our work. He is one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. I love all of my teachers here, and I would love to thank them all.

My favorite class is Theatre because I like being able to do different things in the class, and I think Mrs. Brush is a really good teacher. This class is very engaging, and I enjoy it a lot.

In my free time, I like to read, be outside, help anyone who needs it, and drive around.

After high school, my plans are to go to beauty school and become a cosmetologist.

I am proud to be a WHS Panther because the people here are amazing.

UNDERCLASSMEN EXAMS UNDERCLASSMEN EXAMS

As we head into the final week of the school year, we want to remind families that all teachers will be administering a final exam and providing students with a review guide or study materials. We strongly encourage students to spend time studying over the weekend and throughout next week to prepare.

Final exams count for 20% of a student's semester grade and can make a significant difference in their overall course average. In some cases, a strong exam score can improve a student's final grade, while a poor performance can impact whether a student passes the course.

Please encourage your child to review their materials, complete study guides, and come prepared for their exams. Finishing the year strong starts with being ready for exam week!

ATTENTION PANTHERS! ATTENTION PANTHERS!

If a staff member observes a dress code concern—such as a visible midsection, belly button, or clothing worn off the shoulder—it will result in a referral and a detention.

Our goal is not to be punitive, but to ensure clarity and consistency for all students. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a positive and distraction-free learning environment.

Thank you for doing your part, Panthers—let’s finish the year strong! 🐾

CHANGE IN CELL PHONE STATE LAW FOR 26-27 CHANGE IN CELL PHONE STATE LAW FOR 26-27

We want to give you a heads-up and help everyone get prepared for an upcoming change. A new state law will require that cell phones are not allowed in classrooms at any time—for any reason. This includes before the bell rings as class is starting.

To help everyone adjust smoothly, we are asking you to begin practicing this expectation now. Please keep your phone in your locker and turned off during class time, and do not bring it into the classroom.

This is about creating the best possible learning environment for everyone, and we appreciate your effort in getting ahead of the change.

Let’s be proactive and lead the way, Panthers! 🐾

THE PANTHER HOTLINE THE PANTHER HOTLINE

At Watervliet High School, student safety is our top priority. We want every Panther to feel safe and supported while at school.

To help with this, we have created the Panther Hotline — a simple way for students to report a safety concern if they ever feel uncomfortable speaking directly to an administrator or teacher.

By clicking the link below, students can anonymously share their concern. As soon as a report is submitted, Ms. Powers receives an immediate email notification so that the situation can be addressed quickly.

Please encourage your student to use this resource if they ever feel unsafe or see something concerning. Together, we can ensure that WHS continues to be a safe place for all of our Panthers.
