Nottingham School
KNIGHTLY NEWS
Welcome back!
Today marks our first official five day week of school, and I think we will all sleep well tonight! I continue to be impressed by the dedication of our staff and students and the effort they are putting in each and every day. It has been a great start to the school year, and I am incredibly appreciative of the support we continue to receive from the Nottingham community.
There is a lot of great work happening throughout our school, and I am excited about what the year ahead will bring. I hope you enjoy the first edition of the Knightly News for the 2026–2027 school year and get a chance to see some of the many things happening at Nottingham School.
Have a great weekend!
Pledgers
Thank you to our pledgers who get our day started by helping with Morning Announcements. Students may sign up to be a pledger and we have different students each week.
Shield of Honor
At Nottingham School, we love celebrating the people who help make our school community such a welcoming and positive place to be! Each week, the Shield of Honor Award recognizes a student who truly shines by living out our KNIGHT values: Kind, Necessary, Inclusive, Grateful, Hardworking, Trustworthy, and Safe.
We’re excited to celebrate Brooklyn as this week’s (and first ever!) Shield of Honor recipient! Thank you, Brooklyn, for showing what it means to be a Nottingham KNIGHT and for making a difference in our school community. Keep shining: You make Nottingham School a better place! 🛡️

Technology use
Here are some students demonstrating the two ways to safely carry a technology device. We used white boards instead of actual devices.
8th Grade Science
Making waves in Science! 8th grader are kicking off the year exploring waves and energy transfer; hands-on activities using Slinkies make mechanical waves fun to see, create, and understand!
Veterans Day Assembly
We are excited to bring back our tradition of recognizing and thanking our Veterans! My thanks to Mr. Metz who is spearheading this effort.
Summer Garden Project
Some of our students and staff helped spruce up the front of our school over the summer!
8th Grade Music
8th-grade students have been working on their guitar skills in their music rotation! Students created their own strumming patterns and used the chords we've learned to write a song. These 8th graders presented their compositions to the class in a quick outdoor recital to end the week!
6th Grade Beach Field Trip
The 6th graders took their annual beach trip and collected 31.2 pounds of trash to help clean up our beaches! Thank you 6th grade students and staff!
Chorus update
It's not too late to sign up for band and chorus! Fill out this brief survey and email Ms. Swarce at lswarce@nhsau107.gov for more information! https://forms.gle/F75zifDe9QmWyTcX7
Knights Field
After some challenges due to recent vandalism, I'm happy to report that we held our first soccer game on 9/15 on a beautiful September afternoon.
K Metz
Attached are some pictures from our Kindergarten class. We enjoyed the story of Officer Buckle and Gloria with Mr. Gilbert in Health class. We also created our class goals and put them in the form of a class constitution in honor of our country's goals on Constitution Day.
2nd Grade
Second grade explored the properties of some materials they had “in their lunch bag” when they were “stranded on an island”. Students discussed what properties each item had and how and where on a hat it should be used to keep the sun off them. Then they planned a hat and used the materials to make a hat that would protect them from the sun!
8th Grade Field Trip
Today our 8th graders took part in Adventurelore! This is a great way to build friendships through teamwork and challenges as our students embark on their 8th grade year!
Volleyball
Good luck to our volleyball teams this year, Go Knights!
7th Grade Science
Seventh graders discovered this week that copying DNA sometimes results in mistakes — and they did it by playing telephone. Students lined up and whispered the phrase "Fred's freshly fried fish fillet fell to the floor" down the row, modeling how a gene's code gets copied and passed along during transcription and translation. By the time the message reached the end of the line, it had changed quite a bit! The final version still mentioned fish, but plenty of other details had shifted along the way. It was a memorable (and very funny) way to see how small copying errors can add up to a mutation!
1st Grade
Here is a KNIGHTS banner that 1M made together. They split into groups of 2 or 3 and had to collaborate to decorate each letter! It looks great!
8th Grade Science
Grade 8 is making a splash investigating how waves interact with different types of matter by observing changers in amplitude and direction.
