Prepare for the 2024 Eclipse!

Eclipse glasses? We've got 'em. Supplies are limited. You can get a free pair by attending an eclipse event at the library or by visiting an LCPL branch any time and completing a simple safety quiz.

To save your seat at an eclipse event, head to www.lcplin.org/events and search eclipse. Make sure to sign up in advance - these events will fill up quickly!

Safety Tips!

  • When you wear your eclipse glasses, press them to your face so that unfiltered sun does not get through to your eyes.
  • Only look at the eclipse through the glasses for a few minutes at a time. Take breaks to rest your eyes in between looking at the eclipse through your glasses.
  • If you are viewing the eclipse in the path of totality in southern Indiana, you are able to take off your eclipse glasses for a few minutes at the height of totality and look at the sun. If you are viewing the eclipse from here in NWI or anywhere outside the path of totality, DO NOT look at the sun without glasses at any point.
  • It's perfectly fine to put eclipse glasses on top of your eyewear (glasses or contact lenses).
  • When you're ready to stop looking at the eclipse, turn your gaze away from the sun before taking off your glasses.
  • If you would like to view the eclipse through a telescope or camera, you will need to purchase special filters, rather than just using your eclipse glasses.

SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH

School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians' celebration of school librarians and school libraries. Every April school librarians are encouraged to host activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning.

The AASL efforts for a national School Library Month were spearheaded by Lucille Thomas, chair of the School Library Media Month Committee. Thomas was appointed by President Judy King in 1983. Their work came to fruition on April 1, 1985, when AASL officials, local and national dignitaries got the first School Library Month off to a rousing start with a ceremony on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol.
