Student Spotlight
Congratulations to the 12 members of the WHS Model UN Travel Team who competed at St. John’s Prep in Danvers on December 6th at the twentieth annual Model UN conference. Each delegate worked throughout the day to negotiate and debate in six different committees including the 2008 Financial Crisis, Modern Maritime Piracy, and Political Violence in Developing Nations. Shout out to Linda Khalil and Mia Kiley for winning the awards of Best Negotiator in their committees. Finally, congrats to WHS MUN Secretary Emma O’Hara DaSilva for winning Best Representation in her committee on the 2013 Euromaidan Uprising.
Our Music department has been busy over the past couple of weeks. Our choral students were invited by State Representative James Murphy to perform at the State House last week. The group put on a delightful performance for all.
Our Winter Holiday Art Show and Concert proudly showcased the incredible talent of our students. From inspiring visual art to heartfelt musical performances, their creativity, hard work, and passion lit up the evening and truly captured the spirit of the season.
December continues to be busy, check out the winter sports schedules as games and meets will be started this week.
Reverse College Day
On Monday, December 22nd, Weymouth High School is holding Reverse College Day. What is Reverse College Day? RCD is an opportunity for WHS juniors and seniors to partake in a college fair right in your own backyard. You will have an opportunity to speak to your peers as we’ve invited back recent WHS grads (Class of 2025) to represent their current college. They will be available to discuss college life in general and inform you on academic as well as social issues relevant to their college experience. It is a great opportunity for our students to get information about area schools and hear reflections on college life. Juniors may sign up to attend from 8:33 to 9:22 am and seniors can sign up to attend from 9:26 to 10:15 am.
Our seniors that earned the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship will be recognized during the Reverse College Day. All recipients have been notified by mail and the seniors will be called down for a group picture and will receive a copy of the letter. Congratulations to all of our seniors who met the following criteria:
Score in the Advanced category on one of three high school state assessment tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, or STE (Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics or Technology/Engineering)
Score in the Proficient or Advanced category on the remaining two high school state assessment tests
Have a combined MCAS score on these assessments that ranks in the top 25% in their school district.
