Trivia

Question: What year was the first World Series played?

Answer: 1903 Although there were other post-season championships that took place as early as 1884, the World Series was not established until 1903 - the year that the feuding National League and American League, who had been battling each other for several years over players, decided to come to some sort of peace agreement. They did not, however, make arrangements for a postseason series until August, when the Boston Pilgrims and the Pittsburgh Pirates were already well in front of their respective leagues. The two teams agreed on a so=called "World Championship Series" - a best of nine series which the Pilgrims won in 8 games, making them the first "modern" World series champion.

Activities

Please, return your ice pack to the nurse's office.

The glass plate for the microwave came in so both microwaves should be working in the cafeteria now. Thank you Student Council for purchasing the part.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Growth and Development talks will be given to the fifth-grade class. The talks are scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The girls and boys will be taught in separate classrooms. Heidi Komes, School Nurse, will teach the girls and Mr. Hedderman, Principal, will teach the boys.

If you DO NOT want your student to participate in growth and development talks, please send a signed note with your child to give to the School Nurse or call the School Nurse at 605-347-5232. Please call if you have any questions. Thank You.

Do you have a family member in the military or retired from the military? Do you know someone in the military or retired from military? SWMS would like to honor these people on our Wall of Freedom. Please, bring a picture of this person to the office, we will scan the picture and return it. We will need to know the name of the person, which branch of the service they were in, and the relationship between this person and the student who brought in the picture. (grandpa, mom, family friend, etc) If you have previously brought in a picture we should still have that picture and there is no need to bring in another one.

New Flex classes will begin on October 29th

On October 31st the cafeteria will once again be offering free breakfast to any SWMS student. This free breakfast is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.

Safety

Absolutely no medication on your person, over the counter or otherwise. All medication must be given through the nurse's office.

Backpacks are to be left in your lockers. Our classrooms are very small and backpacks clutter the aisle. It is a safety thing. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
