Compsci Weekly October 26, 2026 - October 30, 2026

Dear CompSci Middle Community,

It sure felt like Fall this week! We were very busy, but also very productive this week. I saw kids learning about proportional relationships in one math class, and kids using a restaurant analogy for multiplying decimals. I also saw some amazing work done in one of the design classes, where kids had to come up with a better backpack design. They had to come up with ideas and create prototypes. We have some future engineers here, for sure.

We also celebrated our Soaring Eagle students. This cycle we have 175 kids who reached that milestone. In addition to the big raffle (listed below) we are also having daily raffles and the opportunity to go play outside! We are so proud of our Soaring Eagles! We even got to celebrate the staff on Wednesday with a delicious apple bar put out by the PTO. The teachers were very appreciative, but sticky...:)

Next Friday we are having a Dress Up Day. Kids may dress up like a favorite person, animal, snack, whatever! No masks or face paints and no props. We also do not allow inflatable costumes, as you still need to fit in a desk. This is a dress up celebration, not a Halloween party, and it is completely optional!

Lastly, please remember how important attendance is. On the half day we only had 88% of our population at school, and that is the lowest we have been all year. Please send your kid to school! I promise they will enjoy themselves and even learn a little bit.

See you at the PTO meeting on Monday (info below).

Have a great weekend,

Jill Wnuk Wojtyna

Principal

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion

“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”

FERPA affords parents and students who are 18 years of age or older ("eligible students") certain rights with respect to educational records.

Schools are asked to download and review the notices and Directory Information Word documents below, populate the required school-specific fields then message the notice and form home to families as an electronic PDF or paper copy in English and Spanish by Friday, October 11, 2026. Please reach out with any questions about these document formats.

It is a federal requirement to send this information to families annually.

Parents should return completed forms to schools only if they request that the school obtain prior written consent before any "Directory Information" is disclosed or released about their child. (These forms are also on our website, here.)

· CREC FERPA Annual Notice of Student Education Record Privacy

Schools are then responsible for tracking opt-out designations by following the instructions below.

1. Ensure staff are aware of any returned forms and any necessary next steps regarding parent notification

2. Store returned forms in student files

3. Indicate the parent/guardian request for prior written notification (returned forms) in PowerSchool by changing the student's FERPA Block field from "N" to "Y" on the student demographics page.
