The top 7 bands from finals will advance to the UIL State Marching Contest on November 1st at the Alamodome.

Wolf Band Philosophy on Competition

  • Have fun!
  • We only control our own work and performance.

  • We respect our competitors as peers and know they are working as hard as we are.

  • The judges are watching and listening to us with an open mind and a fair heart.

  • Placements and trophies are secondary to the feeling of SUPERIOR performances.

  • We accept ALL results with dignity and grace.

Grade Check and Eligibility

The last day of the first 9-weeks grading period was Friday, October 13th. Grades will be final at 4 pm on Monday. Students must be passing to remain eligible for the UIL Area and UIL State Marching Competitions.

Timeline for eligibility

  • October 13 - End of 9 week grading period. All students will keep, lose, or regain eligibility based on these grades.
  • October 20 - Students failing at the 9-week grade check become ineligible at the end of the school day. Previously ineligible students may regain eligibility at the end of the school day.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have question about eligibility.

We are participating in the GVTC canned food drive again this year. The band and color guard are specifically collecting Turkey Cooking Bags and Stuffing Mix. Drop off is at the band hall to Mr. Keyes. We are setting a goal that every band and color guard member donates one box of stuffing. The last day to donate is November 6th.

Alternates/Shadows

Students have been assigned one of the following roles in our 2023 marching production, "UP".

  • Primary spot (A) with no shadow
  • Primary spot (A) with an alternate (B shadow) they are sharing their spot with
  • Alternate or shadow (B) who is shadowing someone who has the primary spot (A)

All students (As and Bs) will play in the stands as well as march on the field at all football games and play for the dance team.

Here is the performance schedule for our students that are sharing spots. Students assigned a primary spot will perform all marching contest and alternates assist with props and other technical aspects of the show. All students are essential to putting on the production and are required to be at all rehearsals and performances. Students sharing a spot take turns performing at football games. I made one adjustment to the schedule that breaks away from taking tuns to allow alternates the opportunity to perform at a home football game on October 13th.

Like all bands, we carry alternates so we have students to fill in holes for eligibility and injuries. Every year multiple alternates or B shadows are asked to fill in primary spots (A) in our show. We also need students to assist with props and other technical aspects of the show at marching contest. Every student is vital to producing an enjoyable and successful marching show at Davenport. One final note - alternates are trained to be completely confident in their ability to perform in a varsity spot when they are ready. Many programs do not have their alternates perform the show, and I am proud that we give all students an opportunity to perform the show multiple times, including at a home football game. We teach all students with the same effort and passion. We appreciate the efforts of our students and the support of our parents more than we can adequately express.
