From the Senior Leadership Team – Term 2, Week 9

Kia ora

Here we are at the end of week 9. It’s been a cold couple of weeks, and it’s more important than ever that our learners are dressed appropriately for the weather. Please make sure that your children have changed into shoes and socks and have a jacket to get them to and from school. Small steps like this can help keep everyone healthy and in school, which is a goal we should all be working toward.

We’ve had a few amazing results lately, both in sports, with our Zone Day teams performing exceptionally well, and in our cultural and music groups showcasing their talents. The TNIS Dance Troupe also won the National Dance Challenge, demonstrating the results of all their hard work and dedication. Next week, our Sports Camp team will be heading to Matamata to compete in the week-long competition at Tōtara Springs. We wish them the very best of luck and know they’ll represent TNIS with pride and demonstrate their sportsmanship and fair play.

In week 11, our mid-year progress report will be coming out. These reports are emailed directly to the first email address provided when the learner was enrolled at TNIS. Your child’s teacher has been working exceptionally hard on these, and this is our first report covering the changes to the NZ Curriculum. It is very important that parents and caregivers read all the information included with the progress report. This will explain what has been assessed, and what will be blank until the end-of-year report. Here are the slides from this week's Report Parent Evening.

ICAS 2026

ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. TNIS will host 3 subjects in 2026: English, Mathematics and Science.

ICAS results are in-depth and meaningful, and ICAS evaluates student performance against other competition entrants across the state and nation. The data reveals student strengths and weaknesses and can help you recognise and support your child's academic journey.

Learn more about ICAS here: (icasassessments.com/products-icas/).

The Assessments Calendar with dates of purchase and the windows in which the text is sat can be found HERE.

These are purchased by parents directly through THIS LINK. If asked for our school PPS code it is: IEH393
