The Bee Well Buzz

This edition of The Bee Well Buzz is being brought to you by the epic space saga, Star Wars! On May 4th, many Star Wars fans celebrate this day based on the signature phrase of the Jedi, "May the Force be with you," simply replacing the word "Force" for the "fourth" day of the month.

In celebration of Star Wars Day, we have put together a few activities that are inspired by the famous storyline of the Skywalker family. We encourage you to join the Alliance and have fun engaging in our intergalactic wellness exploration!

The first activity brings our students along on the adventure of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Jaime from Cosmic Kids Yoga created an amazing movement-filled story based on the feature film.

Things can be hard, but sometimes our mindset makes them ever harder. Our thoughts can change our outlook. When we think things like “I can’t,” “It’s too hard,” "This is going to take too long!” or “It’s too much,” our closed mindset leads our brains and bodies to feel overwhelmed and defeated before we even try. However, when we think things like “I can,” “I’ll do my best,” “This is hard, but I can handle it!” our open mindset lets our brains relax so we are able to achieve more and do better.

Look at the clip below from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Listen to the words Luke is saying and how Master Yoda responds. Who had an open mind (growth mindset) and who was closed (fixed mindset)? Who was more successful?

As an extra challenge, remember a time when your thoughts made a situation more difficult. What was your brain telling you? How did it make you feel? How could you use the Force to change your thoughts?
