CLASS NEWS
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Night of Classes this past Wednesday. We shared information about our Pk3 classes. If you were unable to attend, you should have received a folder with information covered in it.
Next week we will be exploring Families. Remember to send a family 4"x6" photo (if you have not so already) and send your family collage page (filled with pictures of people, pets, your child's favorite things, etc). We will be learning about our families and our friend's families. Some of the activities we will be doing are: My Family picture, Family Words Bingo game, fingerpainting with shaving cream and graphing Do you have a brother/sister?
PK3 have started to check out one library book on Thursdays. They will need to return their book on Tuesdays each week (grace period to Thursday) to be able to check out a new book on Thursday. We recommend finding a special spot at our house to keep their book until time to return it to school. When a library book returns to school in their backpack we will assume you are ready to return it. We will remove it from their backpack and place in our library book box until Thursday.
Fall enrichment classes have started. If your child is attending one of these classes (Creative Movement, Basketball, Pedal Pals and /or Cheer, please make sure to send them with the proper clothings. Boys can bring a different shirt to wear with their uniform bottoms. Girls should have shorts on under their dress and can wear a shirt underneath or have one in their bag. Their uniform is always acceptable to wear too. Creative Movement has its own clothes requirement. We will not be putting tights on the girls (they can keep their uniform on instead).
We are welcoming Coco Quintanilla to Ms. Esperza's clas today. Let's give her a warm St. Luke's welcome to our school family.
Remember your child's teacher is your first contact person if you have a question/concern. We are here to enhance your child's learning forming a wonderful partnership in learning. We are looking forward to a fantastic year!
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Next week some of the math skills we will be working on are:
1.) counting
2.) comparing
3.) 1:1 correspondence (for example: 1 object to 1 space)
4.) number recognition
These skills we will be reinforced throughout the year.
At home, you can have your child match socks to each other, count the number of people in your family and count how many beds, etc. are in your house. Using common items for learning, it's easy and helps your child gain valuable skills.
Next week some of the language arts skills we will be working on are:
1.) increasing vocabulary
2.) identifying family members
3.) syllable claps (for example: "Mother"-2 claps)
4.) listening skills
At home, you can look at family pictures, talk about each member, read stories about families and share your family stories. Read to your child each day to develop a love of reading and a beginning foundation for reading.
