Thank you to the students and families that supported our Kona Ice Fundraiser today, all proceeds will go to support our Robotics Team at Hewes. Next week kicks off September, and next Friday will be the first dance of the year from 2:45 pm - 4:00 pm. Information about the dance and how to purchase tickets can be found in this newsletter. An informational meeting about Cross Country, our fall sport, will be on Thursday right after school in the Activity Center, parents do not need to attend and students who can't make the meeting can pick up information next Friday from Mr.Foley or Mr.Visser. Have a great 3 day weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday, September 3rd.

The first dance of the year will be on Friday, September 6th, from 2:45 - 4:00. ALL tickets will be sold in your student's first-period class for $5 - CASH ONLY. Students must have a signed permission slip with their money to purchase a ticket and the last day to purchase a ticket is Thursday. Ticket distribution will be on Friday morning in the student's first-period class; each student will be given a wristband as their ticket. The dance will have a professional DJ in the Activity Center with outdoor games such as 9-Square and Gaga Ball. ASB will be selling candy at the dance for $1 - $2 each - CASH ONLY. Students must attend school on Friday to attend the dance.

Congratulations to Mr.Visser for being recognized as this week's Faculty Friday. Mr.Visser jumps in and helps out in so many ways at Hewes. This week alone, he rode the bus, subbed in a class, attended the Dino Dash kick-off meeting, and is preparing to start the Cross Country Season. THANK YOU!

The Hewes staff is recognizing HIGHLANDERS “H” FOR A DAY AWARD! Highlander for a Day is a program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments in the areas of Respect, Responsibility, and Results.

Please take a moment to review and vote for a parent representative to serve on School Site Council. Please vote for (1) nominee. Voting closes on September 3rd, 3:00 P.M. Late ballots will not be counted. BALLOT

The meeting dates will be 9/16, 11/4, 2/3, 4/7 at 2:50 PM on the Hewes campus.

The Hewes Mental Health Specialist, Jennifer Wongyai, is on campus 3 days a week to support the students at Hewes. She is also focused on providing information and resources to our families so they and create a supportive environment for our students at home. Please see the Back to School Newsletter and complete this SURVEY so we can learn how to best support your needs this school year.

Please welcome Mrs. Vega to our Special Education Team. She is one of our amazing teachers in our BEST program. Last year she was working at Myford Elementary as a BEST teacher working with TK - 2nd grade and is excited to now be working with middle school students. Mrs. Vega went to Carr Intermediate School in Santa Ana, California, and we are thrilled to have her on our staff.

FUN FACT: Mrs. Vega worked at Hewes 10 years ago in a support role and is so excited to be back on our staff as a teacher!

Sixth-grade families interested in the ELOP after-school program need to reach out to Nancy Roman at the YMCA. The best way to connect is to email her directly at nroman@ymcaoc.org. She will be able to provide information about eligibility and registration.
