An Update from the Superintendent's Office - April 2025
As we enter the month of April, we are gearing up for a busy quarter. We are grateful for warmer weather; especially following a brutal blizzard that left so much damage throughout our communities. We are looking forward to a fun and eventual final stretch of our school year. It's the time of year when we focus on finishing strong even though it can be a busy season for everyone. Our students and staff have shown resilience through a tough winter, and we appreciate everyone's efforts to keep things moving forward despite the disruptions. In this month's newsletter, you'll find important updates on upcoming events, testing schedules, and other news as we prepare for the final months of the school year. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to finish the year on a high note!

Davis St. Reminder
We have had some issues with backing up on Davis St. while buses are loading and unloading. We realize that buses unloading and loading students can be frustrating when you are in a hurry, but we ask that you are patient to provide a safe environment for our students. The law requires drivers to stop for school buses with flashing lights, and any attempt to pass or reverse can endanger students crossing the street. Even when reversing at the intersection in between the Lutheran Church and the high school you could endanger those that are walking or crossing the street at that intersection. We ask that you exercise extra caution and follow these safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of our children. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining a safe environment for everyone. Thank you for your understanding and support.
After School Program
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of a difficult decision that the Board of Education has made regarding the future of our after-school program. After careful consideration and in response to ongoing staffing challenges, we have made the decision to discontinue the after-school program, effective at the end of this school year.
Over the years, the requirements for both after-school and teaching staff have grown significantly, and we have observed an increase in burnout and high turnover rates in the field of education. In light of these challenges, the Board of Education, along with the administrative team, feels that discontinuing the after-school program is necessary to better support our teachers and ensure they can focus on providing high-quality instruction during the regular school day. We remain committed to fostering a supportive environment for our teachers, as this ultimately benefits our students as well.
We understand that this decision may create challenges for many of our families, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are aware of the impact it may have, and we want to assure you that the well-being of our students and staff remains our top priority.
In an effort to assist families with the transition, we are committed to extending our hours of supervision. Beginning in the fall of 2025, we will open the doors for students at 7:30 a.m. and will provide supervision until 4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 2:45 p.m. on Fridays, at which time students must leave school property. Our hope is this extended supervision will allow more flexibility for our families. We want to ensure that you are informed of this change well in advance, and we appreciate your understanding as we work through this transition.
The discontinuation of the after-school program will take effect at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
