School Board Chair Visits Columbus
I’m so grateful to have a School Board that takes the time to visit our schools and see first-hand the great things that are happening.
This week, Chair Carson Benner spent the morning at Columbus, observing the new STEM rotation, the pre-K program and small group work in math and reading. He also stayed for lunch with a group of kindergartners!

Family Resource Center
MSD is excited to announce that we are planning to launch a Family Resource Center in early 2022. We expect this center to be a hub of resources for families to help their children be successful students.
The center could help connect families to community resources, provide services like a food pantry or computer lab, and offer sessions for families to learn how to navigate school technology like eSchool, ParentSquare, school websites and more.
We’re interested in your suggestions on other services and/or training sessions that would be most helpful for your family and the community.
To help us collect your input, we are launching a ThoughtExchange to help us find the most common areas of interest. Click here to participate: https://tejoin.com/scroll/513887693
Final Parent Town Hall
I’ve enjoyed meeting parents during the Town Halls we’ve had so far and have received some great feedback.
There is one last date coming up on Saturday, Nov. 6, so please join us! Click the link below to register, and a meeting link will be emailed to you.
MHS Instant Acceptances!
This week, 100 Mac High seniors were accepted to college during workshops hosted by the high school’s Success Center.
The workshops focus on the application process and include “instant acceptances” after review by the partner institution. This week’s workshops featured Chemeketa Community College (71 acceptances) and Portland State University (29 acceptances). Next week: Western Oregon University.
Students can visit the Success Center on a drop-in basis and get help applying to college or making other after-graduation career plans.

Upcoming vaccine events
Yamhill County Public Health and Providence Medical Center are offering walk-in clinics on Thursday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 4 at Duniway Middle School, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The events are spaced to fit the recommendation for the pediatric shot series for children and will include the pediatric vaccine dose for children ages 5 to 11. The pediatric doses are one-third of the adult dose of the Pfizer vaccine and are delivered with smaller needles designed for children.
The clinic will also offer first, second or booster shots for anyone over 12 years of age.
See flyer below for more details.
Keep your kids safe online
MSD uses an internet filtering program called Securly for student access to the internet.
The program includes a downloadable app that allows families to monitor home use of student Chromebooks.
Find out more about the program on the district website and click here to register for the program.
Community Heroes
The McMinnville Lions Club deploys its volunteers into our elementary schools every year to conduct eye screenings. Using high-tech photo screeners, the images help identify potential vision problems and those students are referred for full eye exams.
The program also recruits Mac High students in the Health Services pathway to help, giving the students some hands-on experience.
Thank you, Lions!
