From the Director's Office

Dear Families,

I cannot believe that we are already in mid-December. The semester has gone by very quickly! We are still moving full speed ahead here with some exciting new opportunities for our young adults. We had a new internship that began December 3rd with Hope's Door. The students involved are working in several different areas of the store including stocking, pricing and helping to direct customers to different items in the store. These students are very excited and we wish them the best of luck during their time there. We have also had a group of students working on obtaining their food handlers license. This group have been working very hard and once the training is complete they will be stepping into work experiences here at ATC! Student run businesses are another area that we are exploring for our students. We are looking at opportunities that will engage students at different skill levels and give more opportunities to those that are working on work readiness skills. Should you know of a Plano business that would be interested in hosting a group of students for work experience please let us know. Our team is working diligently to identify and secure more internship type options for our students.

We have some new communication tools! In addition to our website, Facebook page as well as our Twitter page, we now have the ability to send out mass parent emails and automated messages. These tools will enable us to get information to you faster! I personally am very excited about these new options. I hope that you are finding that we are continuing to evaluate and improve our communication processes. We are very active on our social media pages so if you haven't joined please do!

I want to thank all of you who joined us for the presentation from Cari Stallings with Texas Workforce. She shared some great information on different ways to get your young adult connected with Texas Workforce and some of the services they can provide. Below you will find a google form where we can collect your feedback on what types of Parent Training/Informational sessions you would like to see us provide in the future. Please take a few minutes to fill out the form below so as we plan for next semester we can provide you training and information that is truly beneficial for your family.

I know that the holiday season can be an exciting but also stressful time for our young adults, please reach out to us if you support in preparing your child for the upcoming break. I hope you all have a peaceful winter break and I look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.
