Farewell to 2022

The last month of the year always brings about a time of reflection. There are highs and lows and with each comes a plethora of memories. This year in the LC, there are many things to reflect on, learn from and celebrate!

Let’s reflect for a moment…

The supportive administration and faculty, and some pretty awesome students have turned the LC around. You’ve all made a huge dent in the plans of the “renovation”, but you still have a great deal to accomplish! It will be fun to see it all completed with your special touches on it!

Now take a minute to determine what we’ve learned…

The LC has undergone some change. Change is uncomfortable and sometime a little scary. I’ve heard the questions, seen the concern on faces, and also watched as the change made us better. If you’ve been a regular in the library and experienced some of this change in a personal way… maybe you found yourselves having conversations with new friends, wanting to sit down and get in on a game of chess, or going to the book shelves and finding a book to read for the first time in years… please share your learning/experiences with me or another student that still hasn’t embraced the change.

Let’s celebrate…

There is so much to celebrate!!! This month, even though it is short, lets focus on celebrating what we’ve all accomplished in 2022! Of course, I am going to celebrate how GREAT our students, staff, and faculty are! Without each of you, this LC wouldn’t be what it is today. The smiles, laughter, chess matches, puzzle making, game playing, nice comments, wonderful suggestions, and genuine interest in the LC from you all doesn’t go unnoticed.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Mrs. Brewer

Claws Out Cafe

This area will be transitioning into our Cafe. Some bookshelves will be turned into cabinet shelves that will house some supplies for our Cafe. New lettering for our Cafe name will be placed above our Cafe to welcome us daily!

Still lots to be done, and I can't wait to see how this area turns out! Coffee, cocoa, lemonade, yummy treats, and new books will make this space so inviting for all!

I know the opening of our Cafe is highly anticipated by all, including myself! Please bear with me as we await the shipment of our supplies. I hope to get things up and running very soon!

New Seating

Our new seating for the library side of the LC came in just before Thanksgiving Break! It was an exciting day and addition to our space! It looks amazing and sits very comfortably!

This space has been welcomed by many of you already. It’s become a place to sit and work, read a book, have a conversation, or play in a game of chess! Please come in and try it out!

The stacks that are behind the seating are still undergoing some much needed transformation. I am reorganizing how our literature is shelved. This process is a task for sure and takes a great amount of time to do. Please pardon the odd shelving right now, but don’t let that keep you from coming in to find a good book. Also, don’t forget to give me some book suggestions! I am collecting those and using it to help me make a order for new titles!

Welcome & Maker Areas

Walking into the library, you should have noticed a new area to stop and sign in! This new procedure has helped me tremendously in knowing what you need as a student from our LC! Please don’t skip this step when you come for a visit! After Christmas has gone, I will begin to work on making our entrance a place for you to sit and use as you need to. Look for a new “supply” spot that will house paper, pencils, tape, etc… for you to use while working on your projects while in the library.

Across the way, on the opposite side of the library, this area is just a bunch of tables right now. Slow but surely, this will morph into an area of activities for students to come in and try out. These activity areas will house activities that will challenge you to try something new, think outside the box, collaborate together and to be creative! I can’t wait to see what you make of this area as it comes to life!

Still a Work In Progress!

The Learning Commons is still going through some transitions and will continue to for some time. However, it isn't quite as unorganized as it has been. Progress is slow, but every small change is a step in the right direction.

The library/cafe side of the LC is finally beginning to shape up! The arrival of our furniture really helped to make the area more inviting.

I am doing my best to keep things functional. Make a point to stop in and see for yourself and let me know what you think!

The projected opening day of Claws Out Cafe was pushed back due to the late/delayed delivery of our coffee.
