The Cohasset Compass
Ever Onward ~ Moving Our Schools Into the Future
September 5, 2025
Dear Cohasset Public Schools Community,
Welcome back to the new school year! In buildings, spirits are high, students and staff are smiling, and the weather has been perfect. It's going to be a great year!
Introducing our new 2025 - 2030 CPS Strategic Plan!
Shaped by students, families, educators, and community partners, our plan will serve as the compass that guides our work across the district for the next five years. It is built upon four compass points and aligns our mission, vision, core values and portrait of a graduate so our work is comprehensive and cohesive.
- Teaching, Leading, and Learning - deepening engagement and innovation
- Align curriculum, instruction, and assessments
- Expand deeper- and project-based learning
- Invest in professional growth
- Wellness - prioritizing belonging, balance, and health
- Support student and staff well-being
- Define success for the district, schools, and students
- Foster an authentic sense of belonging for all
- Community Engagement - strengthen partnerships and communication
- Improve staff, student, and family communication
- Share more of about the day-to-day in our schools and student learning
- Enhance community partnerships to support authentic learning experiences
- Resources - Ensure sustainability and stewardship
- Build strong financial forecasting models
- Maintain facilities responsible
- Plan for future needs
Our new strategic plan:
- Offers us a shared vision and goals
- Strengthens our district and aligns our work
- Provides a shared purpose, drive, and desire to elevate within our excellence
Our next steps are to:
- Align our Strategic Plan with our district and school improvement plans and educator goals
- Keep the community updated at School Committee meetings and through our newsletters
- Offer opportunities for families to partner with us and hope you choose to engage
Our motto for the next five years is:
LEARN. GROW. INSPIRE.
TOGETHER
And we are excited to do just that.
TOGETHER, we will learn, grow, and be inspired so the Cohasset Public Schools can continue to thrive and reach new heights.

Community Partnerships, Events & Registrations Now In One Easy to Find Location
We’re shifting from posting events/registrations in each school newsletter to a districtwide page on the CPS website.
👉This shift keeps school/district newsletters focused on site-specific news.
👉 It also allows us to continue supporting community partners like CSCR, Holly Hill, youth sports, and more.
Visit CPS Students @ The Sea Shanty Shindig
Each year, CPS has high school student volunteers as docents at the Cohasset Historical Society. They help keep the museums open during the summer and will be showcasing specific themes of their choice at the 2nd annual Society Street Fair, Sea Shanty Shindig, on Friday Sept. 5th at 5pm. Please stop by to see their work and hear what they have to say about our historic town.
CPS Summer Book Club: Never Enough
As we continue to talk about how to keep our children safe, happy, and healthy, we will keep talking about the impact of social media and need to add to that the achievement culture that exists in Cohasset. Throughout the strategic planning process we heard from our students though surveys, forums, and in one-on-one conversations that they feel an extreme pressure to achieve at high levels in all areas of their lives. What does this mean for them? What does it mean for us as parents and educators? They are asking us to talk about it, so we are. Join us in this important discussion and pick up your copy of Never Enough at Buttonwoods.
What Expertise Can YOU Offer Our Students?
Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.
There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.
If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.
Onward and Upward,
Your School Committee
Follow CPS On Facebook!
We are also excited to announce that the Cohasset Public Schools has a new Facebook page. Our District used to rely on Twitter to share news, announcements, and updates, however, we are shifting away from that platform and will now be sharing similar information via Facebook. We invite you to click here to Like and Follow our page to stay on top off all of the latest CPS news.
