DISTRICT 14P NEWSLETTER
DECEMBER-JANUARY
MESSAGES
Greetings fellow Lions,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I had a hard fall on Veteran's Day and fractured a rib. Other than the rib pain, the past few weeks have been the best I felt in a long time. I haven't had any bouts with my colitis, and I seem to have more energy. I visited several clubs this month and will visit several more in December as well as attend several holiday parties. I am also planning on meeting with our Zone Chairs and our Global Action Team.
Clubs should be receiving District Raffle tickets to sell if they haven't already. The raffle will go off on April 11th, 2026, at our District Convention in Blandon.
Remember the second Week of Service spotlighting hunger takes place the week of January 3-11, 2026. Now is the perfect time to start planning your project.
Please let me know your thoughts about having a District YouTube Channel. There the District and clubs could post videos of service and fundraising events, possible training in the future, precious Cabinet Meetings, and any other important Lions information. It is something that we can try, start off slow, and build upon it if everyone thinks that it is useful

Hello Fellow Lions,
It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of another calendar year. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. I want to thank you all for the time everyone takes out of there busy days to serve other especially during this busy holiday season. I wish you all a Happy New Year.
It was a busy December; I attended both Blandon and Avon Grove Christmas party and had a wonderful time at both. I want to thank Kutztown lions for the invite unfortunately I could not attend since it was the same night as Boyertown’s Christmas party. PDG Gary and I also helped out two local charities, the Salvation Army by ringing bells at the local Render’s Market. And had a great time at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets wrapping presents with the Helping Hands of Boyertown.
Please save the date for the District Convention for April 11, 2026. The location is Trinity Bible Church in Blandon, Pa. Watch for more information in upcoming newsletters. PDG Dave Sampson and I have basket raffle tickets that we will be distributing to the clubs. Just like last year you do not have to be present to win
I have started my VDG training with my group of VDG across Constitutional Area 1. They have now made this a virtual class, you used to have to travel to St Charles for this training.
Happy New Year

BEACON LODGE
Attached is a flyer promoting the rental possibilities at PA Lions Beacon Lodge
Camp. Our goal is to have Beason Lodge become a year round facility. There is an
exerted effort made to generate interest in leasing the camp during the off season
from September to April. During those months, the primary source of income
is from rentals.
We ask that you include the attached rental flyer in your District Newsletters.
To make rental arrangements and to include specific services , please contact Lion Kelly McMullen, Programs Director at 814-542-2511or Kellym@beaconlodge.org.

LCIF
Three prestigious global institutions win the 2025 António Champalimaud Vision Award
The Champalimaud Foundation today announced the laureates of the 2025 edition of the António Champalimaud Vision Award, recognizing three international organizations for their remarkable, long-standing, and impactful commitment to the prevention and treatment of blindness worldwide: Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and its SightFirst programmed; the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB); and The Fred Hollows Foundation
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)
Through its SightFirst programmed, launched in 1990, LCIF has enabled more than 544 million people worldwide to access eye care. With the direct involvement of Lions members, health professionals, and community partners, the programmed has also trained over 2.6 million eye health professionals and supported the construction and equipping of more than 1,700 eye care centers, representing a unique global mobilization effort to restore sight. SightFirst operates in 118 countries and has facilitated more than nine million cataract surgeries, prevented severe vision loss in 30 million people, and improved eye care services for hundreds of millions around the world. In 2024 alone, the programmed supported more than 10,500 cataract surgeries and eye examinations for nearly 54,000 people
INTERNATIONAL
MELVIN JONES
Before there were over 1.4 million Lions around the world, there was one man with a vision. Melvin Jones believed that service could unite people everywhere and he spent his life proving it. He helped shape a global movement that continues to grow more than 100 years later.
JANUARY 3-11 FOCUS ON HUNGER
Hunger
Lions strive to improve food security and access to nutritious food to help alleviate hunger. A staggering number of 815 million people were affected by hunger in 2016, that accounts for 11% of the global population. Also 155 million children under age five are stunted due to chronic malnutrition, 33% of women of reproductive age suffer from anemias and 1/3 of annual food production is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain. In the Lions Club, we see how the global hunger and nutrition crisis bears upon our local communities and our strategic objective is to ensure all community members have access to nutritious food.
Plan Your Hunger Week of Service
Lions know that change doesn’t just happen — we make it happen. The Hunger Week of Service, which takes place January 3-11, is an opportunity for Lions around the world to showcase how we take action in our communities.
There are countless ways you can support the fight against hunger, so use our resources below to get started:
Plus, be sure to visit the Weeks of Service webpage for even more tools, ideas and inspiration — and join the movement to create global change!
LIONSUSA

Through strategic initiatives and dedicated efforts, we aim to empower members, inspire leaders, and make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. LEO AND LION CUBS PAST SERVICE AND FUNDRAISERS
EAST COVENTRY LION CUBS
Throughout the week, Cubs have been bringing in donations of candy canes to create our annual Holiday Cheer Cards! The Cubs had so much fun listening to holiday music and working together to create a candy cane message treat for members of our community. Each Cub took 12 treats with them to distribute throughout the community. Keep on the lookout if you are out in the community because the EC Cubs are out spreading holiday cheer in the community! In our December meeting, the Cubs created a "Kindness Candy Cane Calendar" too. Students wrote down various random acts of kindness that they could carry out throughout the month of December.
The EC Lions club would like to wish everyone a wonderful and healthy new year!

CENTERNARIANS
Dorothy Trate was born at home outside Morgantown, PA on July 9, 1922. As a first-grade student, she walked more than a mile to class in a one-room schoolhouse. She was a good student, and graduated from Caernarvon High School, where she played basketball. She married Harry Trate in 1940, a local lad who worked on her family’s farm part-time. He was a machinist at Birdsboro Corporation who had gotten deferred from the war because he was the only man who knew how to operate a particular machine which made valuable parts for the war machines.
Dorothy supported the war effort by operating a punch press, cleaning small parts.

ROYER GREAVES SCHOOL
With Gratitude This Holiday Season
Dear Friends & Supporters of the Royer-Greaves School for Blind & Services,
As the holiday season invites reflection and gratitude, all of us at Royer-Greaves extend our sincere thanks to you - our donors, staff, families, legislators, and community partners - whose steadfast support made 2025 a year of progress, perseverance, and purpose.
Highlights from 2025
Because of your commitment, Royer-Greaves continued to advance our mission of educating and supporting children and adults with visual impairments and complex needs. This year, we:
- Expanded individualized educational and therapeutic programming, ensuring students received instruction tailored to their unique learning and sensory needs.
- Strengthened creative arts, vocational, and community-based learning opportunities that promote independence, communication, and confidence.
- Invested in adaptive technology and specialized equipment that broadened access to learning and daily living skills.
- Deepened partnerships with healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations to enhance continuity of care and services.
Challenges We Faced Together
Like many human service organizations, 2025 also brought real challenges. Rising operational costs, workforce shortages in specialized fields, and increasing demand for services required us to be both resilient and innovative. Thanks to the dedication of our staff and the generosity of our supporters, Royer-Greaves remained strong, responsive, and financially responsible while never losing sight of the individuals and families who depend on us.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we look toward 2026, we do so with optimism and determination. Our priorities include strengthening staff recruitment and retention, expanding program capacity, modernizing facilities and technology, and continuing to advocate with legislators for sustainable funding and policies that protect and advance services for people with disabilities. None of this is possible without you!
This holiday season, please know how deeply grateful we are for your belief in Royer-Greaves and for your partnership in creating opportunity, dignity, and inclusion for those we serve. Your support - whether through philanthropy, advocacy, volunteerism, or collaboration - truly changes lives.
From all of us at the Royer-Greaves School for Blind & Services, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a healthy, hopeful New Year.
With warmest thanks and best wishes,
