“In every ending, there’s a promise of something beautiful.”
What's in a Moment?
A moment can be a seemingly insignificant event that shapes the rest of your day. A moment can be the person who recognizes that you need a smile and helps you pick up the pieces. A moment can be a laugh shared with friends, a word of encouragement from a teacher, or a small success that builds confidence. When you really think about it, all of those little moments add up to where we are today.
Yesterday, a parent commented that they could hardly remember the Field Days when their children were young. The truth is, I understand exactly what they meant. It feels like another lifetime ago when my own children were that little. Time has a way of moving much faster than we expect.
As I look around Woodland, I realize that I have collected countless moments with our students. I can tell a story about every child here - a moment that made me smile, laugh, feel proud, or reminded me why this work is so meaningful. Those moments are what help us connect, and for that I am incredibly grateful.
As we prepare to celebrate our eighth graders, I find myself especially thankful for all the moments that led them to this day. The accomplishments, challenges, friendships, lessons learned, and memories made have all helped shape who they are becoming. While graduation marks the end of their Woodland journey, it is really the result of thousands of small moments that brought them here.
As this school year comes to a close, thank you for sharing those moments with us. They matter more than we often realize, and together they tell the story of another wonderful year at Woodland.
Seventh Grade is Steppin' On Up!
One of Woodland’s most meaningful traditions took place today as our eighth graders took their final walk up the 8th-grade stairs and officially passed the torch to the Class of 2027.
Being a Woodland student is about more than academics. It is about demonstrating kindness, integrity, respect, and leadership each day. As our eighth graders prepare to begin their high school journeys, they leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
For our seventh graders, this ceremony marked the beginning of a new chapter. As they received the torch, they accepted the responsibility of becoming Woodland’s student leaders for the coming school year. We look forward to seeing them carry forward the traditions, values, and spirit that make our school community so special.
Field Day Fun!
Field Day was everything it should be - beautiful weather, lots of laughter, and a wonderful way to celebrate the end of another school year.
A special thank you to Ms. DeLuca for organizing the day. Events like this don't just happen, and her hard work and attention to detail made it a great experience for our students. Thank you as well to all of our staff members, volunteers, and helpers who gave their time and energy throughout the day. We truly couldn't do it without you.
One of the highlights for me was seeing our alumni return to campus. We welcomed more than 45 alumni throughout the day, and it was so much fun watching them reconnect with teachers, visit old classrooms, and catch up with friends. Seeing former students come back reminds us that while they may leave Woodland, Woodland never really leaves them.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Martin and her snow cone crew for keeping everyone cool. The snow cones were a hit, and one student proudly informed me that he had enjoyed six of them during the day. I can't verify the claim, but it may very well be a Field Day record.
Thank you also to Student Union for providing the inflatables. Their support, along with the support our families give to Student Union events throughout the year, helps make days like this possible.
As I walked around campus yesterday, I was reminded once again that Field Day is about so much more than games and competitions. It's about community. It's about friendships. It's about making memories. Looking around at our students, alumni, teachers, families, and volunteers enjoying the day together was a wonderful reminder of what makes Woodland such a special place.
Work Hard, Play Hard!
After a year of hard work, our K–8 students had the chance to simply be kids and enjoy some well-earned fun on their end-of-year field trips to Kids Empire and Guppy Gulch. From climbing and exploring to splashing, laughing, and making memories with friends, it was the perfect way to celebrate all they accomplished this year.
One of my favorite parts of the day was hearing that our students at Guppy Gulch were complimented by the staff for their behavior and respectfulness. We always know our students are special, but it's especially meaningful when others notice it too.
These trips were a great reminder that some of the best school memories happen outside the classroom. We are so proud of our students and the way they represent Woodland wherever they go.
Summer Reading Requirements
Summer reading is one of the best ways to keep young minds active, curious, and growing during the break from school. Reading regularly helps students maintain the progress they made throughout the year, strengthens vocabulary and comprehension skills, and encourages a lifelong love of learning.
For Students Entering Grades 2–8
Students entering grades 2 through 8 should complete the summer reading assignments provided by their teachers. Information regarding specific requirements has been shared with families. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher directly.
For Rising First Graders (Current Kindergarten Students)
As our kindergarten students prepare for the exciting transition to first grade, we encourage them to make reading part of their summer routine. Students who complete a summer reading log will have the opportunity to earn Blue or White Team points when they return to school in September—and there may even be a special surprise for those who participate! Students are encouraged to complete the log entries independently whenever possible, although parents are welcome to help. To qualify for team points, students must complete at least 30 reading log entries. Whether it's a favorite picture book, a new chapter series, or reading together as a family, every page helps build strong readers. We hope our students take time this summer to explore new stories, discover new interests, and enjoy the adventure that reading can bring.
Happy Reading, and have a wonderful summer!
