Principal's Message

Dear NAMS Families,

I hope this message finds you well. Despite the challenges winter weather brought our way, February has been a productive and engaging month of learning. Our students showed great resilience and focus, making the most of every opportunity to grow both academically and personally.

We proudly celebrated Black History Month with meaningful discussions, activities, and projects that highlighted the incredible contributions of Black leaders, past and present. It was inspiring to see our students engage deeply and thoughtfully throughout the month. Additionally, we kicked off our first house meetings, bringing our school community together to strengthen bonds, build school spirit, and foster teamwork across all grade levels.

As we move forward into the next part of the year, I want to stress the importance of daily school attendance. Consistent attendance plays a crucial role in academic success, helping students stay connected with their learning and peers. Every day counts!

I’d also like to encourage families to support independent reading at home. Regular reading not only strengthens literacy skills but also boosts overall academic performance. For middle school students, aiming for at least 20-30 minutes of independent reading each day can make a significant difference. Creating a quiet, distraction-free space—like a cozy corner in the living room or a spot at the kitchen table—can help make this time enjoyable and focused.

Our school book drive is still going strong! If every student brought in just one book, we could positively impact the lives of over 750 children worldwide who currently don’t have access to literature. It’s a simple way for our students to help spread the joy of reading beyond our school walls.

We’re also excited to launch our school-wide community service project. This month, students will begin crafting handmade dog toys that will be donated to sheltered dogs at the Humane Society. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to show kindness and compassion to animals in need while making a tangible difference in our community.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can ensure that our students continue to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Warm regards,

Mr. Kevin L. Freeman Sr.
