Head Cheetah Message
Families,
Today our third graders unofficially became Lions, as they participated in a transition trip to Center School! It was a bittersweet day, as they reflected on leaving Memorial School. We will miss them so much next year, but we are confident that they will love being Lions, and that they will continue to do great things!
Next week is our final week of the 2024-25 school year. We will end with an early dismissal on Thursday, June 12th.
WIth pride,
Joey & Andrea
Cheetahs In Action
Grade 3 Hero Essay Assembly
Grade 3 had a special visit from the Lions Club, who came to present awards to the winners of their Hero Essay Contest. Morgan Klick was the grand prize winner. Her essay was about her hero, Mrs. McCarthy-Nowak.
Fun Days
The weather held for all four days, and our Cheetahs had a blast! Big thanks to our coaches for another successful Fun Day in every grade!
Grade 3 Walking Field Trip
The entire grade 3 team took a walking trip to learn more about East Hampton history. Highlights of the trip included the one room school house and the historical society.
Grade 3 Art Show
On Thursday night, Mrs. Vining held the first-ever Grade 3 Art Show; and it was a huge success. Our cafetorium was FILLED with beautiful artwork and proud families. It was such a treat to listen to our artists discuss the subjects and media they each chose when creating their masterpieces.
Smart Start Visited Pinspiration
Mrs. Gibson’s class took a trip to Pinspiration, where the children got to paint the background of their canvases. Then they all got in their “paint gear” and engaged in splatter painting. This amazing experience was made possible through a grant from the EH Arts and Cultural Commission, along with a generous donation from a Memorial School family.

Summer Reading
Literacy News- Summer Reading Program
Memorial School is so excited to kick off our summer reading program!
As a school community we applaud all you have done to support your child’s engagement and learning this school year. As we approach the gifts of summer, and a well-deserved break, it will be critically important for your learner to continue to grow as an independent reader, and to recognize reading as one of the many positive life choices they can make. In an effort to maintain students’ level of reading independence and prevent summer reading loss, we are encouraging all students to set goals to continue their reading journey over the summer.
For K-3rd Graders
Next week in library classes, readers will be discussing goals and receiving their summer reading log. This log should be returned in the fall and readers who turn it in will be invited to participate in a special reading celebration.
In the classroom, students also had a special visit from public children’s librarians, Ms. Christine and Ms. Jondahl, to hear about all the exciting things the East Hampton Public Library has to offer this summer. We hope that you take advantage of the amazing programing and book selection available to enhance your child’s summer reading experience. Also make sure to check out our Summer Read Aloud Series schedule that is back at the public library this year!
For more information visit Memorial’s summer reading website.

Summer Math
Dear Memorial Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support their needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their math skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.

Details about the opportunities and how your learner can participate can be found by clicking the various links. All students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Math Packet next week. We will communicate a due date for completed summer activities in the fall – and plan for a fun celebration!
Please reach out to district math specialists, Lis Ellis (K-2) and Andrea Winiarski (3-5), with any questions.
We hope you have “sum” fun with math over the summer!
Notes From The Nurse
Please let us know if your child is diagnosed with any illness or injury (such as strep, flu, pink eye, fracture/broken bone, lice, pneumonia, covid, etc.) as the nurse office tracks illnesses and sends notification letters home if there are 2 or more cases in a specific classroom. Please be specific with any of the symptoms your child is experiencing.
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Mild headache and/or stomachache
Fatigue
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Fever (100.4 degrees or higher. May only return to school after 24 hours of no fever WITHOUT fever reducing medications)
Vomiting (Even once. Must wait 24 hours after last vomit episode to return to school)
Diarrhea (may return to school after 24 hours since last episode)
Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness, and/or muscle aches
Frequent congested, wet, or croupy cough
Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
Please remind your child(ren) about good hygiene habits:
Wash hands frequently
Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing/coughing and then wash hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin) it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not to bring them to school. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on returning to school. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. Please send in a copy of the doctor’s clearance, as needed. Thank you in advance for helping to make this year at school as healthy as possible.
Medications
Every medication that is brought into school requires a “Medication Authorization” form to be signed by the student’s doctor and parent/guardian and the medication in original packaging with prescription label is to be brought in by a parent/guardian, not in the child’s backpack. No child may carry their own medications at the Elementary level. Please use a large ziplock bag for the medication plus the medication order, and label the bag with your child’s name before dropping off. Any controlled medications will need to be counted and signed off with the RN and parent so please allow for a few extra minutes at drop off.
Please note: COUGH DROPS count as medications and are not allowed in school. All over-the-counter medications also need a medication order from your provider.
Food
We have several students with severe food allergies, therefore we highly recommend non food items to share for birthday celebrations. We ask for at least 48 hours advance notice. A great resource for allergy free snacks is the Safe Snack guide at https://snacksafely.com/safe-snack-guide/

Health Concerns
If your child has a new health concern which you would like to speak to the nurse about e-mail kwilliams@easthamptonct.org and mlemire@easthamptonct.org at any time.
If you have any specific concerns that arise during the school year (such as stitches, concussions, broken bones/fractures, etc) it is best that you send in a doctor’s note with dates, guidelines and restrictions, so we can all be on the same page and keep your child safe.
Phone Numbers/Contact information
Please make sure to update cell phone numbers and make sure mailboxes are not full. We call home and use ParentSquare for notifying parents and it is essential that we are able to contact you in case your child is ill, hurt or needs to be picked up from school or in case of an emergency.
Respectfully,
Katie Williams, RN
and Ms. Michelle Lemire

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
