January 2025 Recap โช
Mayoral Inauguration Reception 2026! ๐
We were honored to support the Somerville community in providing child care during the 2026 Mayoral Inauguration of Mayor Jake Wilson!
While families celebrated, our team had the kids covered, assisting approximately 50+ participants! From karaoke and music to pizza, arts and crafts, and nonstop fun, it was our pleasure to be there for the children so the parents could fully enjoy this moment with our new Mayor!
Welcome Our New Director! โ
Weโre thrilled to welcome Ohemeng Kyeremateng as the new Director of Somerville Parks and Recreation!
Ohemeng brings over a decade of experience in municipal parks, recreation, and community programming, with a strong background in senior leadership roles across multiple communities. Most recently, he served as Deputy Director of Recreation for the City of Hartford, where he helped guide innovative and impactful recreation services.
A recognized leader in the field, Ohemeng is a scholarship award recipient of the American Parks and Recreation Foundation and a graduate of the National Recreation and Parks Associationโs Revenue Management School. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Management and a Bachelorโs degree in Sports and Leisure Management.
Ohemengโs work is rooted in equity, access, and community impact, with a passion for enhancing quality of life and creating vibrant, connected communities through inclusive recreation opportunities.
Weโre excited to have Ohemeng join Somerville and look forward to the vision, leadership, and positive momentum he will bring to our Parks and Recreation Department!
Three Kings Celebration 2026! โจ
SPR was able to attend and table at SOIA's (Somerville Office of Immigrant Affairs) Three Kings Celebration this year to celebrate the magic of the Three Kings Epiphany! Surrounded by joy, traditions, and delicious foods, we were able to connect with our community to celebrate such an amazing event!
The Racial and Social Justice Department's MLK Jr. Day Event! ๐
Hosted by the Racial & Social Justice Department, we were inspired by incredible youth speakers from Teen Empowerment and the RSJ Teen Cohort, along with remarks from our new mayor that reminded us of the responsibility and possibility we carry forward together.
With the help of our Parks & Rec staff, community members of all ages decorated hands representing who they are and how they felt at the event. Those hands were displayed around our interactive art piece โ a powerful visual reminder that there is strength in power, and there is strength in numbers.
It's Snowing at Tot-Time! โ
January 22, 2026
Our Tot-Time Preschool Program was able to bundle up, go outside, and make igloos with all of their friends!
Your Newest Babysitters! ๐ผ
January 28, 2026
Congratulations to all of our January participants!
Teen Snow Tubing Field Trip! ๐
To celebrate finishing the first month of the year, our teens went on a field trip to McIntyre Ski Area for an epic night of snow tubing full of laughs, speed, and winter vibes!
