Parent Trainings
FACE offered two parent trainings in December.
The Importance of Early Literacy
On December 2nd, storybook authors Todd Nesloney and Asuncion Martinez, Program Director Marco Zannier Virginillo and Keeble Primary Assistant Principal Juan Toscano shared with Aldine parents important reading tips that can improve the love of reading in youngsters.
Holidays Session
On December 16 the FACE Department offered a session on holiday crafts and recipes. MacArthur teachers Ms. Danielle McDaniel and Dr. Michael Gray shared a delicious Apple Caramel salad recipe whereas Aldine Director of Visual Arts Kaileigh Newman offered craft ideas to our parents.
Storytelling
Our first Storytelling Event held on December 3rd was a great success! It was great to see the excitement from the students who listened very attentively to storytellers Lisa Howard, Magrill Primary ILS, and Lolianette Cavazos, Ermel Elementary ILS. Holiday Food Delivery
Thanks to the Houston Foodbank, the hard work of the FACE team, and the collaboration of the FACE Campus liaisons, about 500 Aldine families received a bag of fresh produce just in time for the holidays. The FACE team will continue its partnership with the Houston Foodbank to offer Food-Drives in the new year.
NAM Toy Drive
A big shout-out to Aldine employees who once again demonstrated their generosity by participating in the Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) Toy Drive that benefited students in the Aldine, Spring, and Klein school districts. Aldine collected 13,100 toys and $700 in gift cards. Special thanks to our business partner TNTP (Kristen, Mike, Amanda, Jarred, Julie, Gabe, Chelsea, Beth, Liza, Candance, Ari, Emily and Emily) who donated gift cards that made the kids happy this Christmas.
Six Aldine Families Received a Holiday Gift
Houston Texans Brennan Scarlett and Beyond the Basics Foundation brought holiday cheer to six Aldine ISD students hit hard by COVID-19. Scarlett surprised the students with a video conference visit and $800 Amazon shopping sprees.
Thank you NAM!
Due to the strain on the economy, many families are struggling financially. Northwest Assistance Ministry (NAM) was generous with providing support to one of our families in Aldine ISD. This family was the recipient of household supplies, 4 baskets of groceries, blankets, cooking utensils, $150.00 in gift cards, and Christmas gifts for all the children. Although the pandemic has taken a toll on the economy, we are grateful that NAM is addressing the needs of our community. (NAM Representative in the picture below).
