We had a great week at Patton and the sunshine helped us celebrate "Earth Day" on Wednesday! It was wonderful to see so many bikes and scooters on the blacktop, and I was happy to see so many of you take advantage of the opportunity to walk to school!

On Tuesday, the students who participated in this year's PTA Reflections program were honored at the AHSD25 Board meeting. I am so proud of the time and effort they put into their submissions for this program and was delighted to see them honored. Next year's theme is "What My Culture Means to Me," so feel free to start thinking of ideas for next year. We hope to celebrate even more panthers next year.

We have one more week of MAP testing ahead of us! Thank you to everyone for continuing to show up ready and well rested!

If you can believe it, we have only 27 school days left to go before we head off on summer break! Let's make these last 27 days the best days ever!

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS PUBLIC WORKS - TREE U (NEW POST!) ARLINGTON HEIGHTS PUBLIC WORKS - TREE U (NEW POST!)

On Monday, forestry staff from the Arlington Heights Public Works came to Patton to discuss basic forestry operations, tree biology, benefits of trees and environmental issues. 3rd grade students were able to see and learn about trees and how the forestry equipment is used with some live demonstrations. This was an incredibly informative presentation and the students learned a great deal. We are very grateful to our local Public Works department for sharing their time and their knowledge with us.

They will also be donating mulch to Patton for the second year in a row. We use the mulch in our courtyard. Last year our garden club members and some parent volunteers were a tremendous help in transporting and spreading the mulch. We would welcome a handful of parent and student volunteers to come help us on Tuesday, May 5th at 3:35pm when the mulch is delivered. We will meet by the Patton Avenue doors. If you love gardening and you are available to hold a door, shovel some mulch, wield a wheelbarrow, etc. please complete THIS FORM by Friday, May 1st. If you have a wheelbarrow or large shovel that you are able to bring, please share that information as well. We will reach out to those who volunteer with more information. In the event that we have a large response, we will reach out to volunteers in the order we receive responses.

We are excited to announce our 19th Annual Patton Elementary School Walkathon, benefiting Make-A-Wish Illinois! This special event will take place on Thursday, May 14 from 4:00–5:15 PM and is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together, have fun, and support an incredible cause.

We are reaching out to ask for your help in making this event a success by connecting us with business sponsors and/or donated items.

Business Sponsorships
If you own a business or know of a local business that may be interested in supporting our Walkathon, we would love to partner with them! Sponsorships help us maximize the impact of our fundraiser and bring us closer to granting wishes for children in need.

Donations for the Event
We are also looking for donations to make the event extra special for our students. Some ideas include:

  • Bounce houses
  • Bubbles
  • Small prizes or giveaways
  • Snacks or refreshments
  • Any fun, family-friendly activity items

If you are able to contribute, know a business that would like to sponsor, or have items to donate, please reach out to us. Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference!

Please contact:

Stephanie Koenig: skoenig@sd25.org

Amanda Vincent: avincent@sd25.org

Thank you for your continued support and generosity. Together, we can help make wishes come true for children through Make-A-Wish Illinois.

Warm regards,
Patton Walkathon Committee

MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU DAY (NEW POST!) MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU DAY (NEW POST!)

Get ready for a fun and meaningful way to start the day!

On Monday, May 4th, we will be celebrating “May the Fourth Be With You” at Patton Elementary. Some of your favorite Star Wars characters will be welcoming students before school, making arrival extra exciting!

As part of the celebration, we are proud to support Make-A-Wish through a friendly school-wide fundraiser:

Light Side vs. Dark Side Challenge

Students are invited to bring in a donation and choose their side:

  • Light Side (Jedi)
  • Dark Side (Sith)

How it works:

  • Two collection containers will be located on the blacktop.
  • Students will drop their donation into the side they want to support.
  • The side with the most donations will be announced at the end of the day.

Who will you support?

Every dollar donated helps grant wishes for children in need, making a real difference in their lives.

We hope your child will join in the fun and help us make this event both memorable and meaningful!

Thank you for your support,
Patton Elementary Walk-A-Thon Committee

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS WINNERS (NEW POST!) BATTLE OF THE BOOKS WINNERS (NEW POST!)

Battle of the Books Club was an exciting opportunity for 4th and 5th grade students to grow as readers while having fun working as a team! In this club, students read a selection of engaging books and collaborated to prepare for a friendly trivia-style competition where they answered questions about the books. The three top scoring teams participated in the Championship Battle last week. Congratulations to Team Oreos on their win! Thank you to all students who participated!

We received notification from a parent and a neighbor recently about some incorrectly parked cars and some hazardous driving at the intersections of Maude and Harvard. Please adhere to the parking signage on the streets surrounding Patton and please remember that parking is not allowed on Maude and Harvard between 8:00-9:00 am and 3:00-4:00 pm on school days.

Please also ensure that you are following the speed limit and be aware of pedestrians in the cross walk on Maude. We have been informed of a couple of close calls recently.

As the weather warms up we anticipate an increase in walkers, and more students using bikes and scooters so we appreciate everyone's cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe. For those biking and scootering, we appreciate everyone remembering to wait to ride them until they are off school property.

Excusing Children from PE - Physical Education

Parents may request that their child be excused from Physical Education for one day due to a medical reason. Any absence beyond one day requires a physician’s note.

For elementary students, physician orders must clearly state any restrictions for both Physical Education and Recess. Students who are unable to participate in Physical Education may not participate in school-sponsored sports clubs during that time.

Excusing Children from Outdoor Activities / Recess

Elementary students regularly participate in outdoor activities during Physical Education classes, daily recess, and the lunch period. For the safety of all students, children are expected to go outside during these times unless there is a documented medical reason. If your child needs to remain indoors, a physician’s note is required that specifically states the outdoor restriction.

After School Activities and Events

Students absent from classes on the day of an extracurricular event may not be allowed to participate in that day’s activities or event. Prior planning by parents and school helps eliminate any such conflicts.
