The North Carolina Office of Career and Technical Education provides multiple opportunities for students to obtain Industry-Recognized Credentials during their high school career.
Industry-recognized credentials hold immense value as they not only validate student skills and knowledge in a specific field but also serve as a powerful stepping stone toward future careers.

They provide a competitive edge in the job market, making students more attractive to potential employers and increasing their earning potential. Moreover, industry-recognized credentials often lead to more job opportunities and pathways for advancement, helping students embark on successful and fulfilling career journeys.
Beyond the immediate benefits, these credentials instill a sense of accomplishment and confidence, motivating students to pursue higher education or dive directly into the workforce with the skills and certifications needed to excel. Ultimately, industry-recognized credentials empower high school students to bridge the gap between education and real-world employment, setting them on a path toward a brighter and more prosperous future.

PCS Attendance Initiative Every Minute Counts! PCS Attendance Initiative Every Minute Counts!

Every Minute Counts! Attendance matters now more than ever. Chronic absenteeism—missing 10% or more of the school year, regardless of the reason—puts students at academic and social risk. Research shows that even in early grades, frequent absences can make it hard to read on grade level, stay engaged, and ultimately graduate on time.

Our district, like many others nationwide, has seen an increase in chronic absences since the pandemic. As partners in education, we ask families to help us prioritize attendance by scheduling appointments outside of school hours, keeping routines consistent, and reaching out when challenges arise.

Together, we can ensure every child is present, supported, and ready to succeed—because every minute truly counts.

NCSSM Connect Calendar

We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. Courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.

Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.

While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
