Good Afternoon,

Report Cards

iPass has reopened for you to view your student’s Term 2 report card. If you have any questions about your student’s grades, please reach out to the teacher directly.

Faculty Shout-Out

Each week, I include a faculty/staff shout-out at the bottom of the newsletter. Now that we’re more than halfway through the school year, I’d love to highlight more of the amazing work our faculty and staff are doing! If you’d like to recognize a staff member, please complete this Google Form. Submissions will remain anonymous.

6th Grade Night Out (Flyer Below)

We’re excited to announce that the PTO is hosting a 6th Grade Night Out at AMS on March 7th from 6:30–8:30 PM. Students MUST be pre-registered to attend. You can sign your student up using this Google Form.

The cost to attend is $10, which can be paid via Venmo (details on the flyer) or in cash at the AMS main office.

Information for 8th-Grade Families

Eighth-grade families should have received an email from me last week with details about the Signs of Suicide Program. Please refer to that email for more information, and reach out to our school adjustment counselor, Kelly Roy (kroy@ashland.k12.ma.us), with any questions or to opt your child out of the program.

Additionally, today, 8th-grade parents/guardians should have received an email from me regarding the 9th-grade course recommendation timeline. Below is a summary of the key dates:

  • February 24 – March 6: Teachers meet with students to discuss 9th-grade course recommendations.
  • March 3: Mrs. Lachapelle meets with 8th-grade students to review the course selection process.

  • March 7 – March 21: Parents can approve 9th-grade course recommendations in iPass. Approvals must be completed by March 21.
  • March 20: Deadline to contact teachers with recommendation concerns.
  • March 24: Deadline to submit completed course override forms to the main office.

Messages from the Health Office

Reminder: Fever Policy

We are in the middle of cold and flu season, so here’s a reminder of the Ashland Public Schools Fever Policy:

  • If a child is not feeling well before school, parents should check their temperature.
  • A child with a fever of 100°F (37.7°C) or higher will be sent home from school.
  • The child must remain home for the entire next school day and must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school.

Please ensure your child stays home until they meet these guidelines. You can find all APS clinical guidelines here.

7th Grade Substance Use Screening

During the first week of March, our counseling and nursing staff will conduct the SBIRT screening. Click here to read more about it, including how to opt your student out if desired.

Preparing for the 2025–2026 School Year

Our health office is already preparing for next school year!

  • Current 7th graders: If your child has had a physical exam within the past year, please ensure we have a copy on file. All incoming 8th graders must have a recent physical exam dated September 1, 2023, or later to start school in the fall.
  • Current 6th graders: Students must be up to date on their vaccinations to begin 7th grade.

More information on immunization requirements can be found here. If you have any questions, please email ams_nurses@ashland.k12.ma.us.

Next Week’s Schedule

  • Monday, February 10: C Day
  • Tuesday, February 11: D Day
  • Wednesday, February 12: E Day
  • Thursday, February 13: F Day
  • Friday, February 14: A Day

A reminder that February Vacation is February 17–21, and there is no school. We return on February 24 to a B Day.

Spring Fundraisers & Field Trips

I’m excited to share that we have grade-level field trips planned for the end of the school year! To help minimize costs per student, I’m hoping that each grade can run a successful fundraiser this spring. If you have a fundraising idea or would like to help organize one for your student’s class, please reach out to me, and I’ll connect you with the class advisor.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Stay safe and warm during another round of snow this weekend!
