Outdoor Play Outdoor Play

At RRE we understand the importance of getting our students outside to play, learn, and engage in different learning environments. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather each and every day. This is no small task…we know that we can experience all four seasons in one day while living in Newfoundland! Having an extra sweater, hat, mittens, and socks in the locker can help to keep your student warm and comfortable when transitioning from inside to outside learning and play. Please mark all clothing with your student's name.

Kids Eat Smart Radiothon Kids Eat Smart Radiothon

The Kids Eat Smart Radiothon is taking place tomorrow, November 5th. This is a very important cause for Rennie's River as it helps fund our breakfast program and provides a nutritious breakfast snacks for our students each day. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

You can support our Breakfast Club by designating your gift to our school at www.kidseatsmart.ca or phone 877.722.1996
Every $1 raised, is a breakfast!

Chess Tournament Chess Tournament

Since last winter, RRE has been offering a lunchtime chess club, thanks to Mr. White, one of our teachers. Students have been learning, playing, and supporting each other as they develop their chess skills. Thanks to Mr. White for bringing this amazing game to our school.

On Sunday, November 9, the Newfoundland and Labrador School Chess Association will be running one of their annual tournaments at Rennie’s River Elementary!

The cost of this tournament is $25 per player. Registration will open at 9:30 AM on Sunday November 9th in the gym at Rennie’s River. Cash or credit/debit card will be accepted.

The tournament will start as close to 10 o’clock as possible and all of the games should be finished around 4 PM. All players need to be supervised by a parent or designated guardian for the full day.

The tournament will have five rounds. Players will play a maximum of five games and a minimum of four games. After a game has ended, there will be some wait time before the next round will start. If you can only play for part of the tournament, please let one of the organizers know on Sunday morning when you are registering.

The lunch break time for each age group will be announced once the tournament begins. Players should prepare to bring their lunch. There will be information coming on a canteen service that will be provided.

Playing in a tournament like this will be a great experience. Any grade 4-6 student who has been to most of the chess club meetings this year should feel comfortable to participate. Anyone playing should have a good knowledge of the basic rules. If you are unsure if your child is ready to play in a tournament, please contact Mr. White, he will be more than happy to advise you. Chess is relatively new at Rennie’s River and this tournament will see some of the best players in the province. It will be a great start for the Rennie's River players to get some experience. Please email chriswhite@nlschools.ca if you have any questions.

Lateness can also have a negative impact. If a student misses 30 minutes of instructional time a day, they miss 150 minutes a week, approximately 600 minutes a month, for a total of approximately 6000 minutes a year. Minutes add up and learning is impacted.

Thank you for the Generous Donations to our Simms Street Families Thank you for the Generous Donations to our Simms Street Families

Thank you to all who donated gift cards, money, and items to the victims of the Simms Street fire. We have moved the location of the donations to the ANC, as they have more suitable space to house it. If you have any donations of household goods and furniture you can let us know.

Professional Learning Days Professional Learning Days

PL days are days when teachers have the opportunity to learn about and engage in discussions regarding new curriculum, teaching practices, assessment, and new resources. There are seven PL days built into each school year. Given the nature of what they are used for, a number of our days tend to be in the fall but we do try to spread them throughout the year.

1) 1 Day NLSchools Family of Schools Professional Learning Day

2) 2 Days Professional learning connected to School Development Plans.

3) 2 Days Report card preparation.

4) 1 Day Professional learning related to topics identified in consultation between

administration and teachers - RRE has been working towards the fundamentals of language and math and effective tools for assessing each.

5) 1 Day Ministerial Day focused on Mental Health and Wellness for staff.
