Westfield families:
Thank you to everyone who came to conferences this week. If you weren't able to make it to conferences but have questions about your child's learning, please reach out to their teacher.
A big thanks to PTC for providing lunch and snacks for the teachers during conferences! Your support is always appreciated.
Have a great weekend!

District emergency test call is now complete
The annual test of the district's emergency phone contact system was completed at 2:00 p.m. today. All families should have received a call at this time to every guardian's phone number registered with the district. If you received the call at the phone number you would like to be reached at in an emergency, there is nothing else you need to do. If you did not receive this call, please contact the school’s main office to provide updated contact information that can be used to reach you in an emergency. Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep our records up to date.
Hearing & vision screenings
Vision and hearing screenings will take place on Tuesday, October 27th, with re-screenings scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th. Kindergarten and 2nd grade students will receive both vision and hearing screenings, while 1st and 3rd grade students will receive hearing screenings only. Kindergarten students who have already submitted their required eye examination documentation will only receive a hearing screening. New students and students receiving special education services will receive both vision and hearing screenings.
Picture Retake Day is November 4
Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, November 4. If your student needs a retake, please send their envelope of photos with them to school on picture retake day and ask them to give the photo envelope to their classroom teacher. They will be called down for a retake sometime that morning.
IAR test results will be sent home with students next week
During the week of October 26-30, the results of the state-required Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) will be sent home for students in fourth through eighth grades. All students in third through eighth grades took the IAR in March of the 2025-2026 school year.
Halloween information
Halloween is approaching quickly, so I wanted to share some information for those of you already planning for that day. This year will be a little different because Friday, October 30 is an early release day for students with dismissal at 11:50 a.m. Our Halloween celebrations will be in the morning. If you do not want your child to participate in Halloween activities, please contact the Westfield office.
New this year is that students will wear their costumes to school in the morning. Please remember when considering costumes that all costumes should be non-violent and school-appropriate. Costumes should not include swords, guns, knives, clubs, lasers, or any other type of pretend weapon. All costumes and masks must be designed for safety and adequate vision.
We will have a Halloween costume parade at 10:15 a.m. Families may line up along the sidewalk on Mayfield Lane and students will parade around the building in their costumes. Kids are outside for only a short time, so we will make every effort to conduct the parade even if the weather is not ideal. Following the parade, students will return inside for classroom parties. Only classroom volunteers will be allowed inside for the parties. Parent volunteers are asked not to take their child home with them at the conclusion of the party but to wait for official dismissal procedures.
Remember, there will be no edible treats at the parties, and students may not distribute any food to classmates. Celebrations may include non food items such as stickers or pencils, and water will be available to students throughout the day, including during class parties.

Resources for helping your child through difficult times
Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
Students, families can report crises and threats through Safe2Help
Students and families can confidentially call, email, or text the Safe2Help tip line to report bullying, threats, or classmates in crisis. Students or families can call (844) 4-SAFE-IL, (which is 844-472-3345); text SAFE2 (which is 72332); email Help@Safe2HelpIL.com; or submit tips through the online form. Safe2Help submissions are monitored every hour of every day. More info: https://bit.ly/3BPxObO
