PBL Weekly Blast
October 27 🎃 - November 2 💀
DID YOU KNOW?
Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31...The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats. Learn more.
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition celebrated on November 1st and 2nd to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away. It is a joyful celebration of life and memory. Learn more.

"I Declare"
An interdisciplinary project between PBL government and Voices in World Literature classes, “I Declare” challenges students to compose and perform spoken word pieces inspired by the Declaration of Independence and current political events, reasserting and/or redefining the founding document’s key ideas. Students film their performances using green-screen and design a video montage to reinforce their rhetoric.
In Voices in World Literature, students examine the various persuasive tools the founders used to get their message across to both the King and the American people, and they use some of those same tools – as well as a little rhyme – in their pieces. In government, students study the context and the purpose of the founding American documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. They evaluate the fundamental rights and look at current events to understand how our rights are being upheld or challenged in today's world.
All views expressed in these works are those of the individual students.
