Summer Send Off: Summer Camps, Opportunities, and Activities

Dear Walker Families,

Thank you for an amazing 2020-21 school year! Your child has worked hard and has shown growth throughout the year. We are so proud of our Walker Wildcats! We need your help to make summer an opportunity to continue this learning and avoid the "summer slide." We would like to encourage you to take some time and sit down with your child to make some summer goals.

Your child can continue using their IXL account at home over the summer. Other educational websites can be found on the Walker website under the student tab which is linked below. Make plans to check out to the Springdale Public Library summer events and let your child choose books to check-out to take home and read. Take time to play board games and play outside with your child. Explore the many opportunities that can be found within Northwest Arkansas. Many links to summer events and opportunities can be found at the bottom of this newsletter. We hope you will check them out and get a chance to have some fun as a family while providing your child with new learning experiences. Happy Summer to all of you!

Summer Programs for Marshallese Families

Mrs.Anita interviewed Carlnis Jerry who is the Director for MEI or Marshallese Educational Inititiatives. Join us as we talk about some of M.E.I.'s programs that will be offered this summer for Marshallese youths.

A program emphasizing culture and leadership. This program will have a parenting component as well. We talk about how she mentors students as she goes out to the schools and reads with them. Some of their staff members help students with FAFSA and college enrollment.

Kindergarten Registration

We can't wait to see our new kindergarten students join our Walker family next school year! Do you need to register your child for kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year? To register your child, go to www.sdale.org and click on ENROLL NOW or you can come to Walker for a face to face enrollment opportunity on Monday, April 12th from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Our office team will be ready to assist you to ensure your child is completely registered. Please bring the following documents: 1. A birth certificate; a statement by the local registrar or a county recorder certifying your child’s date of birth; an attested baptismal certificate; a passport; an affidavit of the date and place of birth by the child’s parent or guardian; previous school records, or; United States military identification 2. Social security number, if available. 3. Immunization records. Your child must be up to date with all of their kindergarten shots before August 2021. 4. Kindergarten physical; if you do not have your kindergarten physical it must be completed before August 2021. 5. Proof of address Masks will be required. Please share this message if you have a friend or neighbor who needs to enroll a child in kindergarten at Walker for the 2021-22 school year.
