Sunnyvale ISD E-News
OCTOBER 16, 2026 EDITION
Sunnyvale ISD's weekly communication designed to both inform and invite. Thank you for engaging in our school community and supporting the Raider Family! Visit www.sunnyvaleisd.com to learn more about the amazing things happening in Sunnyvale ISD!
The Sunnyvale Alumni Association has named the late Jeriann “Jeri” Hardin Lee the recipient of its 2026 Legacy Award, which honors a former SISD staff member who made a lasting impact on students, colleagues and the community. Lee served as school secretary for many years beginning in the late 1970s. She assisted the superintendent, supported teachers, and welcomed students and parents with kindness and care.
Alumni remember her as one of the welcoming faces of Sunnyvale ISD and someone who kept things running behind the scenes. Her son Gregory remembers her quiet generosity. “If she knew of a student whose family was having a hard time, she would do something special for them at Christmas and not tell anyone else about it,” he said. Years later, she could still name the students whose school pictures hung on her refrigerator, along with their parents. Read the full story on our website!
The Sunnyvale Alumni Association has named Chris Bugbee (SJH ‘90) its 2026 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Bugbee President and CEO of OneStar Foundation, the State Service Commission for Texas. There he leads statewide efforts to expand volunteerism, support nonprofits and help communities recover from disasters. Before OneStar, he served at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and at the White House.
Bugbee went to Sunnyvale schools from kindergarten through eighth grade and says that’s where his commitment to service started. “Sunnyvale felt like an extended family,” he said. His advice to today’s Raiders: “Don’t just sit on the sidelines. Get involved, seek out ways to help, and be part of something bigger than yourself.”
Help us welcome Bugbee home at halftime of tonight's football game, when he’ll be recognized on the field. Read the full story on our website!
