Gold Rush Elementary
Principal's Message -January 17, 2025
“Foster Growth by Challenging Critical Thinkers to Take Risks,
Honor Differences & Care for Others”
CELEBRATING MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
This month, students across all grade levels participated in meaningful activities to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our school community took time to reflect on his life, his dream for equality and justice, and how his contributions continue to inspire positive change in the world today.
Learning About Dr. King
Students watched powerful clips from Dr. King’s famous "I Have a Dream" speech, where he shared his vision of a world filled with equality, love, and opportunity for all. They also read nonfiction texts that highlighted his life’s work, his struggles, and his tireless dedication to fighting for civil rights. These lessons were designed to help students not only understand Dr. King’s profound impact on society but also to think about how they can contribute to making the world a better place.
Dreaming for the Future
After exploring Dr. King’s message, students were encouraged to reflect on their own dreams for the future. Across the grade levels, students expressed a wide variety of wishes. First graders shared their hopes for a world where all people have homes and access to education. They also dreamed of a kinder world with less litter. These thoughtful reflections were inspired by Dr. King’s vision of a better, more just world for everyone.
It is heartwarming to see how Dr. King's message continues to inspire our students to think beyond themselves and consider how they can contribute to making the world a more compassionate and just place. We are proud of the empathy and thoughtful reflections demonstrated by our students as they celebrated this important figure in history.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAY - ANALYZING DATA
This Friday was a Professional Learning Day for our staff. On this day, teachers and staff analyzed student data, planned individualized support, and ensured we continue to meet the unique needs of each student.
Analyzing Winter Data
Before winter break, students were reassessed using a variety of assessments, including the i-Ready diagnostic, which helps us gauge progress in key areas like reading and math. This data provides valuable insights into each student's growth and achievement. Teachers worked together to carefully analyze this information across the grade level and in individual classrooms.
Planning for Student Success
During the Professional Learning Day, the team:
Examined growth and achievement in reading and math based on recent assessments.
Identified trends and areas where students may need additional support or enrichment.
Planned interventions and enrichments for students who may need extra help and those who are ready for more challenging material.
Created informal assessments that will be used throughout the remainder of the school year to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
We are excited to celebrate the growth our students have made so far and to identify additional opportunities for success as we move into the second half of the school year. The goal of this day is to ensure that all students are on track to meet their learning goals and that they continue to receive the support they need to thrive.
