Dear middle and high school families,

Last spring, following increased security concerns, Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero convened a Safety and Security Task Force to review our existing systems and processes. That group presented thirteen recommendations to our Board last May; you can watch the discussion here. We’re working to implement all recommendations but, as we prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, we wanted to draw your attention to one in particular.

During the coming year, we will begin requiring middle and high school students to wear their student IDs throughout the day. We will print the IDs and provide lanyards – but our students bear responsibility for bringing their IDs each day and wearing them. Given this, please know we will be sending a similar communication directly to your students as well.

The timing of this new requirement will vary school to school, so please stay tuned for further communication directly from your school leadership.

We know that keeping our learning spaces safe and secure is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate your partnership in this work.

Best,

Dr. Jon Franco
