Upcoming Events
Coldstone: Teacher Scoops
Join us at Coldstone on September 2 from 4:00-6:00pm for a fun NRE community night. Several teachers will be scooping ice cream for us and Coldstone generously donates a portion of the proceeds back to NRE. Mark your calendar and stay turned for more details coming soon!
Fun Run
Mark your calendar for the largest fundraiser of the school year - Fun Run will happen on Wednesday, September 10! NRE students invite friends and family members to sponsor them for running as many laps as possible. The day is FUN - music, popsicles, running with friends and more. We will need several volunteers to help the day be a success - its a really fun day to be at NRE! More details coming soon!
Winter Coat & Halloween Costume Drive
Bring your unneeded winter gear (jackets, gloves, hats, boots, etc.) to NRE starting Friday, September 12. We will have bins in the front lobby to drop off things you no longer need. Also, take a look in the bins for anything you might need! Consider it a swap - give what you don’t need and take what you do need! You do not have to make a donation to take something you need. We want to make sure all NRE kiddos have warm gear this winter!
New this year - we will also collect unneeded Halloween costumes. If you see one in the bin that you can use, please take it!
The Coat & Costume Swap will end on Friday, September 26.
Multicultural Night
One of the most special nights of the year - NRE Multicultural Night - will be on Friday, October 3 from 5:00-7:00pm. NRE families host booths to help us celebrate the diverse cultures represented in our school. Would you like to host a booth and showcase your culture? Reach out to Tiffany Malone at tiffanykmalone@gmail.com to reserve your booth or ask questions!
Booth Ideas:
Cultural Booths: Traditional clothing, art, or historical artifacts
Interactive Activities: Host a craft project, game, or storytelling sessions
Performances: Family / children perform music, dance, or poetry
Global Cuisine: Small samples of cultural foods - candy, food item or drink
Restaurant Nights
Local restaurants host “spirit nights” where a designated portion of the proceeds from your order will be generously donated back to NRE PTO. All you have to do is mention NRE when ordering. It’s a win-win-win: you get a night off from making dinner (or treats), local restaurants get our business, and PTO receives a donation! Stay tuned for more dates - we are adding more to the calendar all the time!
8/28/25: On the Border - 11:00am-9:00pm
9/2/25: Qdoba - Dorchester location - 4:00pm-8:00pm

Technology Information
Dear Families:
This letter is being written to inform you that your student(s) will be using a variety of instructional websites and/or apps throughout the 2025-26 school year. These tools are not provided by the district, however, each resource has been vetted by our teachers, evaluated according to district guidelines, and approved by the school administration because of the learning opportunities they provide. Each of these resources offers students the opportunity to share their knowledge and understanding of a topic in a variety of ways including photos, drawing, text, and recorded voice. These tools allow us to teach and reinforce reading skills, math skills, communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity, and much more.
Your student is not required to use the tools, as an alternative assignment will be provided; therefore your student’s grade is NOT dependent on these tools. The alternative assignment will be determined according to project, grade, and teacher on an as-needed basis.
To opt your child OUT of any of these resources please print this letter, circle the title(s) to be opted out of, sign, and return to your student’s teacher. Please fill out one form for each student you wish to opt-out. By not returning this letter, you are agreeing to the use of these tools and/or account creation for your student(s).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s teacher or our Instructional Technology Specialist, Roshma Moova.
Thank you!
Asking Smart Questions
I found this article and thought it could be helpful when asking kids questions.
“The future is built by the curious,” says Dan Rockwell in this Leadership Freak article. “The spirit behind curiosity shapes the response you receive.” He suggests ways to tweak questions that rub people the wrong way to get better results:
Instead of, Don’t you think it would be better if…? ask, What are some other options?
Instead of, Why did you do it that way?, ask What didn’t happen that caused this failure?
Instead of, What were you thinking? ask What would you do differently next time?
Instead of, Are you sure that’s a good idea? ask What makes you believe that will work?
Instead of, Why didn’t you come to me sooner? ask What needs to be in place for you to be comfortable coming to me sooner next time?
Rockwell adds four ways to bring out the best in people:
• Touch imagination – What would it look like if you hit a home run this week?
• Use action words – What did you do that made this come together?
• Add time – When will you try that?
• Shift perspective – What might your colleagues suggest?

Principal Letter
Dear Northridge Families,
We had an incredible first full week of school this week. It has been such a joy to see students already diving into learning and settling into our school community.
🎉 Back-to-School Carnival
Our Back-to-School Carnival was a huge success! So many families attended, and the evening was filled with smiles, laughter, and joy. From face painting, bounce houses, and cotton candy, to balloon art and the ever-popular shaving cream flip at the teachers—the night was one to remember. While we did have to cut the event short due to lightning in the area, the time we were able to spend together was truly special.
A huge thank you goes out to our amazing PTO for organizing and hosting such a wonderful event. We are so grateful for the countless hours they put in to make this celebration possible for our community. Thank you also to all of our families who were able to attend. Northridge is a strong community, and I’m so thankful to be a part of it.
There are a few pictures of the carnival below. I wish I had taken more!
📚 First Full Week of School
Learning is in full swing, and our classrooms are buzzing with excitement!
1st Grade students identified themselves as superheroes by sharing what makes them special. They even made their own capes and “flew” through the school showing off their superpowers!
4th Grade has jumped into their State of Colorado unit and is already hard at work on maps while exploring the different regions of our beautiful state. They are also learning about the symbols of Colorado and even created beautiful Columbine flowers to represent our state flower.
3rd Grade is diving into rich math discussions, exploring how math connects to the world around them and is part of our everyday lives.
It is inspiring to see such meaningful learning happening so early in the school year!
👨👧 Watch D.O.G.S. Kickoff Meeting
This week we are hosting our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) kickoff meeting on Wednesday, August 27th from 5-6pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for dads, granddads, and father figures to get involved at school and make a difference in the lives of our students. We’d love to see as many of you there as possible—your presence makes a huge impact!
On a personal note, I’m looking forward to the cooler weather that’s arriving this weekend and into next week. I can’t wait to soak up all the “first-fall” moments—whether it’s taking a walk, sitting on my back porch to watch the birds, or enjoying dinner on a patio. This change in season always feels refreshing, and I hope you find time to enjoy it too!
Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us every day. We’re off to a fantastic start, and I can’t wait to see all the growth, learning, and joy this year will bring.
Smiles,
Erin

Thank you so much!
