A Smooth Start to the Year
Welcome back, Mavs! The start of a new school year brings excitement, fresh opportunities, and sometimes a little nervous energy, for students and parents alike. Here are a few tips to help your teen ease into the year with confidence:
1. Set routines early. Encourage consistent sleep, mealtimes, and homework hours. Predictable routines help students feel grounded as they adjust.
2. Create a study-friendly space. A quiet spot with minimal distractions can make a big difference in focus and productivity.
3. Stay connected. Check in with your student about their classes, friendships, and how they’re feeling. Even short conversations show them you’re in their corner.
4. Encourage balance. While academics matter, remind your student it’s just as important to get involved in activities they enjoy and to take time for rest.
We’re excited for the year ahead and are here to support every student’s success. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our counseling team if you need guidance, resources, or just a listening ear. Together, we can make this school year a smooth and positive journey!
🙋 Ask A Counselor
How can I stay organized this year?
Start simple! Use a planner, calendar app, or even sticky notes to keep track of homework, tests, and activities. Break big tasks into smaller steps so they feel less overwhelming. Parents can help support this by checking in on deadlines and celebrating progress, not just final grades. Small habits now can save you from stressing later.
Have a question you'd like answered in the next newsletter? Send it in! Click the sticky note to the side to submit a question. To keep this space helpful for everyone, please keep questions general and non-specific.
🧘 Wellness Tip of the Month
Starting a new school year can be exciting, but it also comes with new routines and responsibilities. One way to keep stress in check is to build in short breaks—whether it’s a walk, listening to music, or just unplugging from screens for a bit. Taking a few mindful minutes each day helps everyone recharge and approach school and home life with more energy and focus.
💼 Career Tip Of the Month
Find what you like by paying attention to the classes or activities that make you lose track of time—those might connect to future careers. Do you love working with people? Solving problems? Being creative? Start noticing what feels fun or rewarding now. Small clues can point you toward big opportunities later.
💡 Senior Year Spotlight Tip
Using the Common App to apply to colleges? Please use this quick guide to ensure that you have successfully linked your Common App to your SchooLinks account. This way, your counselor will know that you have applied to schools and can send any required documents. This is an important step in your college application process, so please take a moment to follow the directions if using the Common App!
If you have any questions or issues using SchooLinks, Counselors will be available each Wednesday during all 4 lunch through October 8th.
