THE SHINER TIMES

Have A Great Summer Break!
The 2019-20 school year is coming to a close quite differently than any before. We have not been able to share the usual end of year testing, the thrills of field day, the pride of awards day, or the smiles and goodbyes of the last day of school. Yet, we have all been in this together and have managed to make eLearning work for the last two months of school. We have cheered each other on through google meetings, daily food distribution, and our ever present MES Shiner Spirit! Enjoy this last Shiner Times, which is a showcase of our students throughout this year. It even has a few surprises from years past.
MES SPIRIT STILL SHINES!

Sixth Graders Say, "GOOD-BYE MES!"
Fear Is A Choice
Goodbye MES, I will miss you. I am a sixth grader and because of this virus, I am not able to finish my sixth grade year at school. I love MES. It is such a great school. It is filled with so many great teachers and staff members. There is no school better than MES. To all the students there and students that will go there, I have some advice for you.
DO NOT let fear stop you from trying out for a club or from reaching for your dreams. Life is so unpredictable, anything can happen, but if you let fear get in the way, you will not forgive yourself. I am president of Student Council, in Robotics Club, in Garden Club, on The Shiner Times staff, and a part of the flag crew. If I had let fear get in the way, I wouldn’t have been a part of any of these clubs. You are more likely to participate in a club if your confidence is greater than your fear.
I encourage you to reach for your goal as I did, and I will continue to do. Find a quote to live by. For example mine is, “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” Babe Ruth. It doesn’t have anything to do with sports; it has to do with not letting fear keep you from your dreams. To the staff members, I will miss you! You all had a huge part in my life. Thank you. -Jessica Wullenweber
Thanks For An Amazing Childhood!
I've been a student at MES for seven years. My childhood was shaped around this school. MES is the reason for who I am today. I’ve loved this school with all my heart and I can’t believe it's over. Even though I can't spend the rest of my school year in the building, I can still look back on all the amazing times I've had. One of my favorite memories was when my teacher, Mrs. Davis at that time, talked to me about my math. I was struggling, so she put extra effort in to helping me understand. I thank her for that. The amazing teachers, students, and staff at MES has helped me through so much. They’ve helped me realize who I am, and I want to thank them for that. I’ve been lucky to have such understanding teachers, who have helped me through thick and thin. One suggestion that I have for current MES students and future ones, don’t let any obstacle get in your way. Let your true self shine. On behalf of all sixth graders, thank you MES for providing an amazing childhood. I’ll miss all of you. - Gracie Brock
A Wish Of Luck
The 6th graders are entering middle school and leaving Manchester Elementary. My final message to all 5th graders and lower grades is to make friends. Even if you’re antisocial or have trouble making friends, at least try. if you make the right ones, it’ll help you in the long run. Try to find people who have interests similar to yours. Have balance - some people focus on school way too much, but there are some who focus way too little; it's important to have balance. You also need to take breaks. Breaks are important no matter what you do (unless it is very important such as an end of the year test). Read a little bit of a book, talk to someone, or inanimate objects. Just do whatever and you’ll feel refreshed. Goodbye, MES. - Kamden Blackburn
THANK YOU MANCHESTER
It’s a new start and a new beginning … but this new beginning means that something else will have to end. The first time I walked into Manchester Elementary I was just a kindergartner with no clue what to expect. I’ve learned my fair share while I was at Manchester, such as fear is a thought that shouldn’t hold you back from achieving your dreams. It's safe to say that while it has definitely been an educational journey, it's been a fun one as well, full of so many memories. Between the parties, the games, the special classes, recess and -- oh yeah, schoolwork -- there are so many things that I will miss.
It is sad to think that I will not be at Manchester next year, as I’m moving on to 7th grade. These last weeks are going to be something I cherish. Most of us never dreamed that March 13th would be the last time we would ever have recess or the last time we’d see Mrs. Hopper and Mrs. Beam standing in front of the class trying to get our attention. We may be moving on and saying goodbye to MES, but it will always be in our hearts. Thank you teachers, aides, cafeteria ladies, Mr. Jim, Nurse Wanda, Mrs. March, and Dr. Werner … THANK YOU MANCHESTER! - Davin Hudnall
“Goodbye Manchester!!” When I first started at Manchester I was shy until I met new people. It turned out that they would still be my friends today. I just want to thank my teachers for helping me when I didn't understand a problem and for guiding me all the way through Elementary School. I can't believe that I was with a very special group of people. I don’t want to leave all my special memories at MES, but I will move on to middle school and make more memories there. To everyone at MES, Thank You! - Mason Hamlett
