ACT College Assessment- Wed. March 19 (11th graders)
ACT Account Set Up
ACT Account Set-Up and Scores Sent to Universities
If your child is scheduled to take the upcoming ACT, please start talking with then regarding which universities they may want to send their scores to. This is part of the "Non-Test Activities" that students will complete in preparation for testing.
It is also important to note that setting up an account for ACT requires a personal email. With ACT being outside the organization, student emails will not allow the emails to come to their Person County, school-issued email. Consider providing your child with a personal email account so they can complete this process.
Login and Practice Daily!
This is a required standardized test for all students and it measures your readiness for college and career readiness. Performing well on this assessment may allow you to opt out of readiness courses at community college or college/university. It can also provide access to scholarships. Please take a moment and start practicing for this assessment in the next couple of weeks.
As a reminder, you were given access to an excellent online prep program to ensure you are prepared when test time comes! As with any resource, it is a tool, the more you use it the better you will be!
Next Parenting with Eyes Wide Open is March 27th! TOPIC: How Do I Start the Conversation?
Do you have questions or need help starting a conversation with your child about the dangers of substance use?
Parental involvement and education are crucial when it comes to preventing substance use among our youth. Person County Schools invites you to an experience that will provide parents with the tools they need to take a proactive approach in discussing the dangers of substance use with their children, as well as recognize signs of risky behavior. Preventing substance use starts at home. Don’t miss the opportunity to gain this vital knowledge!

You can now download the Instructure’s Canvas Parent app in both the iTunes and Google Play stores. View the Quick Access sheet by clicking on the graphic to the right.

College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC)
FAFSA is the First Step to All Financial Aid:The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the most important step in knowing your options for paying for college. There’s no obligation to accept any aid offered, and it allows you to be considered for federal, state and college-based funding – including scholarships and grants that don’t need to be repaid.
Apply for Scholarships HERE
NC Community Foundation
The North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) announced last week that nearly 140 college scholarships are now open for applications, representing nearly $1.8 million in scholarship funds. The scholarship application window closes on March 3, 2025.
NC Next Scholarship
The Next NC Scholarship combines the federal Pell Grant with the state-funded financial aid program to form a simplified and predictable scholarship award that’s easier to understand and makes education more affordable for most North Carolinians. It’s an opportunity to pursue the degree you need for the career you want – and the future you choose.
With the Next NC Scholarship, most students from households with incomes of $80,000 or less will qualify for at least $3,000/year to attend a NC community college that covers all tuition and fees. For students planning to go to a UNC institution, they can get $5,000/year that covers more than half, if not all, tuition and fees. And for students going to a NC private college there is a state Need-Based Scholarship for them, too!

Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor)
A lot has changed over the summer in regard to the facilities at Person High School. Much work has been completed, but much is still underway. We thank you for your patience as the construction takes place!
The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. Instead, visitors are asked to park in the top part of the gym-side lot, walk down the sidewalk toward the building that is lined with fence and labeled “School Entrance”. At the end of the walkway, there are doors that are serving as the entrance to PHS while the front is not accessible. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitors Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking
For the 2024-2025 school year, students must be dropped off in front of the gymnasium and not any other building location, such as the front of the school or T-wing lot. Carline is indicated on the map below with yellow arrows. Due to construction, students will enter the building at the entrance indicated by the pink star on the map below.
Student drivers will enter and exit the student parking lot by using the Ridge Road entrance shown in red arrows on the map below.
Visitors to the building will need to park in the upper part of the gym-side lot and enter the building by the media center, indicated by the green star on the map below.
PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitor Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
PCS Gazette
Please review the PCS Gazette for district policies and procedures related to communication, inclement weather, student promotion and accountability, parent and student rights, non-discrimination rights, volunteering, the PCS Code of Conduct, dress code, release of student information, administering medication, bus safety rules and regulations, child nutrition, and more!
School Calendars
2024-2025 Calendar (English)
2024-2025 Calendar (Spanish)
Piedmont Community College Calendar
We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Tuesday, August 27, 2024. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. These courses begin on Tuesday, August 27 and courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.
Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.
While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
