Dear RES Families,

We are excited about the month ahead and all the opportunities to connect with our amazing Ringgold Elementary community! Mark your calendars for our FAST Math and Reading Night on February 25th. It will be a fantastic evening of learning and fun with your child that you won’t want to miss!

Be on the lookout for information from your child’s teacher about Spring parent-teacher conferences. We are eager to meet with you, celebrate the incredible growth your child is making, and collaborate on ways to help them finish the year strong.

At the end of the month, we’ll kick off our Double Good Popcorn fundraiser, and we’d love your support! The funds raised go directly toward classroom needs, building updates, teacher appreciation, and more.

Thank you for your partnership in making Ringgold Elementary a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow!

Warm regards,
Dr. Kristian Edgeman

Parent Workshop: Love Languages of Children

Join RES and RPS for a fun parenting workshop. We build these workshops based on parent requests from our Fall Survey, and this is always one of our most requested workshops! Come join us on February 11th at 3:00 in Room 203. We will learn about the different love languages of children and learn some homework tips based on each love language! We will provide some yummy desserts and take-home goody bags, so be sure to RSVP so we can prepare enough treats! You can RSVP by returning the purple paper that came home in Tuesday folders, or you can also RSVP by clicking here. Hope to see you there!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

It is time for individual parent-teacher conferences! They will begin on February 14th, and continue through March 14th (although some teachers have already started having conferences.)

This is your chance to meet one-on-one with your child's teacher. It is very important that we meet with ALL parents. So please make it a priority to schedule a meeting with your child's teacher, and to attend the meeting.

Come prepared with any questions you might have about your child, their progress in school, or anything else you would like to discuss. Your teacher will reach out to you soon to schedule a meeting time!

See the flyer in next week's Tuesday folder for more information.

Have you got a talent you would like to share? Our RES Variety Show is coming up March 27 and we can't wait to watch our talented students shine like the stars. If you would like to try out for the show, pick up an audition form from Mrs. Roach and put your act together! Auditions will be February 28 during connections, and we would like to have 3-4 student acts for each grade level. Can you juggle, perform martial arts, dance, sing, or perform a magic show? How about a comedy skit? Show us your best skills, and let's have a great show!

With the cold and flu season upon us, it’s important to remind ourselves how exercise helps keep us strong and healthy. In addition to giving you more energy and making you feel good, exercise helps your body function better. A recent article in Health Studies Weekly explains that the immune system is the system that defends your body against infections. Exercise helps your immune system protect your body. According to some studies, exercise has been shown to increase the number of cells that fight bacteria in your body. So the more you exercise, the less likely you are to become ill. However, it’s important to remember that if you’re already sick, exercise may do more harm than good. Your body needs to rest to fight the infection, and exercising during an illness can sometimes cause you to be sick longer. So get out there, get moving, and stay well!

Healthy Celebration Snack Ideas:

  • Individual bowls of low-fat popcorn with melted peanut butter as a topping.

  • Build your own trail mix: offer choices of low sugar, whole-grain cereals, seeds or nuts, dried fruits and snack crackers. Kids scoop appropriate serving sizes of their choices into individual plastic baggies.

  • Whole-grain bagel halves spread with pizza sauce, sprinkled with part-skim mozzarella cheese, and broiled for 1-2 min. until cheese melts. (optional: provide a variety of sliced veggie choices that kids can select to put on their bagel.)

  • Mini-waffles spread with low-fat cream cheese and topped with fresh fruit.

  • Beverage Ideas: Offer flavored waters or 100% fruit juices mixed with sparkling water to add some fun!
