School Principal's Message

Reutter School Families,

As we wrap up another fantastic week at Caroline L. Reutter School, I want to take a moment to reflect on our achievements and share important updates with our school community.

This week, we celebrated our students' commitment to positive behavior with a fun-filled Candy BINGO event for all those who earned their PBSIS Dojo points during the month of September. It was wonderful to see their hard work and positive choices rewarded! Inside our classrooms, engaging instruction continues across all grade levels and subjects, as highlighted in this week's edition of our newsletter, Our Week at Reutter School.

Alongside these positive highlights, we are also remaining attentive to the overall well-being of our students. Recently, we have noticed an increase in mental health concerns, particularly among our sixth-grade students. Supporting our students' emotional and mental health is just as vital as supporting their academic growth.

To address these needs directly, Mrs. Roberts, our School Counselor, and I will be visiting sixth grade homerooms throughout the course of next week during the supplemental class period. Our goal is to bring greater awareness to mental health, normalize discussions around emotional well-being, and provide clear avenues and practical resources for students to seek assistance whenever they need it.

We also want to ensure our families feel fully supported. Additional resources and guidance for parents regarding adolescent mental health have been enclosed in this week’s issue of Our Week at Reutter School. I encourage you to review these materials and keep an open line of communication with your child. Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to making Reutter School a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all of our students.

As we head into the holiday season, our school community is well aware that some families may need extra support in order to have a much deserved Thanksgiving feast this year. Therefore, our Counselor Helpers will be collecting non-perishable foods to help us create baskets filled with a balanced meal that we can then distribute to these families. With your help, our food drive will ensure no family goes hungry in our community this holiday season. In order to serve a maximum number of families a full meal, each homeroom has been assigned a specific item (listed below in the newsletter). Food items will be collected until Friday, November 13. Items may be dropped off in the main office vestibule between 7:30am-1:30pm, Monday-Friday. Please see Mrs. Roberts' letter in Our Week at Reutter School publication.

Finally, our student council will be hosting Halloween Festivities on Friday, October 30. Students will be permitted to "dress in costume" throughout the school day (optional) pending their costumes are within the guidelines for our school dress code. Costume props and Inflatable Costumes will not be permitted. Classroom "gatherings" will be incorporated into the day's schedule for the students to gather and enjoy a small treat with their homeroom peers. In addition, there will be separate, grade-level "socials" for the students to mingle while listening to music. As the students enter the gym for the "social" there will also be a costume contest. The student council would like to thank the PTO and Parents in advance for their donation of refreshments for this fun event.

Sincerely,

Mr. Theodore Peters

Principal

Recognizing Excellence in Attendance

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Special Education Teacher Miss Ciara Hayden and Evening Custodian Mr. Dan Inferrera for achieving perfect attendance during the 2025–2026 school year.

Both Miss Hayden and Mr. Inferrera were formally recognized for this remarkable milestone at the October 2026 Board of Education meeting. Being present every single day takes an extraordinary level of commitment, and their unwavering dependability ensures that our students are supported in the classroom and that our school building remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment every evening.

Thank you, Miss Hayden and Mr. Inferrera, for your exceptional dedication to the students, staff, and community of Caroline L. Reutter School!

Mental Health Resources Mental Health Resources

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the overall well-being of our students, we are pleased to share valuable resources from Erika’s Lighthouse: A Beacon of Hope for Adolescent Depression, a highly respected mental health education and advocacy organization. Erika’s Lighthouse provides free mental health awareness programs designed to help families gain a deeper understanding of mental health issues and learn how to foster open, meaningful conversations with their children about their emotional well-being.

The core goals of these programs include:

  • Raising awareness of good mental health.

  • Recognizing signs of depression as well as risk and warning signs of suicide.

  • Reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

  • Encouraging help-seeking skills and connecting students with additional support services when needed.

A key component of the Erika’s Lighthouse initiative is family engagement through education and awareness. To support you at home, they have developed two accessible resources to help facilitate conversations with your child about mental health:

  1. “We All Have Mental Health” Workbook: Written by parents, for parents, this guide is designed to help you promote and nurture good mental health within your home as part of their Family Workbook Series on Mental Health & Depression. You may access the workbook directly online at https://erikaslighthouse.org.

  2. On-Demand Virtual Family Workshop: A short, on-demand video workshop is available for you to view at your convenience. This workshop offers valuable insight into adolescent mental health and depression, helps prepare you for discussions at home, and previews the supportive materials students encounter. You may view the workshop online at https://erikaslighthouse.org.

These fact-based, student-friendly, and hopeful programs promote a vital message that every child and family needs to hear: Everyone deserves to have good mental health; depression is common and treatable; and there is always hope and help. You are never alone.
