Hardman's Happenings

Hello Oak Hill Families!

The third quarter of this school year ended on March 7th, and I am having a hard time believing we started the fourth and final quarter of the school year this week?? Where has that time gone?!? Today at about 5pm, you will receive an email and phone call letting you know that your child’s third quarter report card is ready to be viewed, along with directions on how to access that report card. You can also see what your child’s third quarter grade is by going to your Skyward Family Access account, clicking on what specific child you want to check grades, and then going to their gradebook. The current quarter 3 grades are listed under the Q3 column. By following these steps, you can access your child’s third quarter report card once they have been posted and able to be viewed, which will be after 5pm today, Friday, March 14th.

On Monday, April 7th, we will have a scheduled asynchronous eLearning day at all Oak Hill Schools. Asynchronous eLearning means that teachers will post assignments on Google Classroom for grades 3-12 and SeeSaw for grades K-2. Students will be able to complete the assignments on their own throughout the day. April 7th will be the last scheduled elearning day of the school year. Teachers will be at school that day participating in different trainings, as well as grade level and department meetings, so if you need help with anything or you have any concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher by email and they will respond to you when they are able to and are back in their classrooms. Here is the calendar for the rest of the 24-25 school year.

This summer, we will be doing two different facility projects at the Junior High and High School buildings so you will likely see many trucks and people coming and going around the back of the school during much of that time. The two projects that will be started and hopefully completed over the summer are the replacement of the junior high roof and the replacement of the dehumidification system in the high school swimming pool, along with some painting and other pool work. Both projects are scheduled to start the first week of June, and the roof should be completed before the students come back to school in August. The pool is tentatively scheduled to be done by the end of September. The replacement of the dehumidification system in the pool will cause the pool to be shut down from the start of the project in June until our tentative completion date of September. If this timeline changes for either project, we will be sure to let you know once both timelines become finalized.

Another project that is on the horizon for the Oak Hill elementary schools is work that will be done on the playgrounds. Swayzee Elementary will see significant improvements as their main play system had to be removed last school year. Sweetser and Converse Elementary Schools will see some upgrades to their current playgrounds. We don’t have a timeline for these projects yet but once we do, we will be sure to relay that information to you.

Happy almost Spring Break! I am excited for the warmer weather that we have had, and we hope it continues once we return from spring break! I am hopeful you are able to spend some quality time over spring break with family and friends as those tend to be some of the best ways to recharge your batteries! Our family looks forward to that time to get away and just spend time together and not do much of anything!! Oak Hill Schools will not be in session on Friday, March 21st through Sunday, March 30th. We will be ready to welcome our amazing students and staff back to school on Monday, March 31st! Have a restful and safe Spring Break!

Your continued support is very much appreciated and so important in helping our school grow and be better every day! We have had such a great year so far and I am sure that it will end that way as well with your continued engagement and support in your child’s education.

Yours in Education,

Sheri Hardman

READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK March 3-7

What a FUN week we had! We have been reading books by Heather Alexander this week. They are mystery books that helped to bring a real mystery to life at Converse!! We had the case of the missing snacks! The students had to rule out the suspects to see who took them and then had to use their super sleuthing skills to find out what the treat was! It turned out that Mrs. Liddick accidentally left the popsicles in the hallway. Mrs. Lenfestey, because she is always helping Mrs. Liddick, found them and put them in the freezer for safe keeping! They figured it out and enjoyed popsicles on Friday! What a fun week of reading, finding clues and solving mysteries! We can't wait until next year to find out what our adventure will be!

Sweetser Snapshot

Read Across America at Sweetser:

Sweetser Elementary took on an exciting reading challenge led by Mrs. Hunt, the school librarian, as part of Read Across America Week! Students recorded every book they read—whether picture books, graphic novels, or chapter books—on special red, white, and blue book cutouts. These were then added to a giant U.S. map display in the hallway, with the goal of covering the entire map by the end of the week.

The reward? If they met their goal, students would get to slime Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Switzer!

The challenge was a huge success—students read an incredible 661 books! 📚🎉

iLearn Testing

We are preparing for our testing season. Please mark these dates on your calendar. Students do best and feel most comfortable on these assessments when they test with their classmates and their teacher as they do throughout the entire school year. Please avoid scheduling appointments during the iLearn testing window as much as possible so that we are able to ensure the best, most comfortable testing environment for your student. We have scheduled testing on April 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th and May 1st. We have make up days built into the schedule, but testing in the same manner they have used all year long produces the best results for our students.

Family Bingo Night & Bookfair

Families, mark your calendars now for our Bingo night and spring bookfair. On May 6th, we will gather in the Swayzee gym for an evening of bingo. Homerooms will be collecting items for baskets that will be the prizes on this evening. We are looking forward to an evening of fun and laughter and promoting literacy through our bookfair. The spring bookfair is our Buy one Get one event! Come prepared to stock up on reading material for those kids for the summer!

Social Worker’s Week

Last week we had the extreme honor of celebrating our wonderful Social Worker, Ms. Woodard. Students showered her with sweet notes, we had a salad carry in lunch, and there were many testimonies from staff and students posted to our kindness wall. Swayzee is very lucky to have Ms. Woodard!

Families! Check out our new electronic kindness wall. Students, staff and members of the community can submit messages of kindness to appear on our electronic kindness wall.

JA JobSpark is a part of Junior Achievement’s career readiness curriculum that has been delivered to many of the students throughout their academic experience, beginning in elementary school. Students will have real insights into the industries that interest them, the skills needed, and the education required. At the virtual career expo, students have the opportunity to interact with professionals from eight industry clusters. JA JobSpark introduces students to a variety of professions and industries allowing them to better understand what it takes to get a job and develop a career. On March 6th, our 8th graders participated in the JobSpark Virtual Career Fair and heard from successful professionals from the fields they selected.
