St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 WEEK 9 | 17 SEPTEMBER 2026
Dear Jesus,
Teach us to be like You in all our ways.
Teach us kindness, gentleness, generosity, and to be
giving, forgiving, loving and caring.
Teach us to follow in Your humble footsteps.
Guide us to the place You want us to be, take control.
Mould and shape us into the brilliant beings we were
always defined to be.
Amen
Dear Parents, carers and friends of St Columba’s
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about” Wendy Mass
I have some of my favourite quotes sitting on my computer at work. Each day I cast my eyes to them and they keep me focused. The overwhelming theme is to be kind and to be proud. One of the kindness quotes is below.
To laugh often and much,
to appreciate beauty,
to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better...
to know even one life has
breathed easier because you have lived:
that is to have succeeded.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
What does it mean to you to be just a little kinder in your daily life? To me, it means greeting those I meet with a smile. I seek to be kinder than necessary because everyone we meet is fighting some kind of battle. A random act of kindness could help a person work through a hardship they are carrying. Through our kind actions we are modelling to those around us how to treat others with respect. To be kind is to demonstrate respect.
How can we as adults and leaders of our community share kindness with each other? How can the children in our care learn from us and aspire to be kind in all they do?
A Gentle Reminder: Raising Concerns About Your Child
We know that as parents, you sometimes have questions or concerns about your child's schooling and we want to make sure these are heard and addressed in the most effective way possible.
If you would like to raise a concern, we kindly ask that you follow these simple steps:
Step 1 : Speak with your child's teacher first
Your child's teacher has a close, nurturing connection with them each day and is often best placed to provide immediate insight and context.
Step 2 : Contact the administration office
If you feel your concern has not been fully resolved after speaking with the teacher, please reach out to the administration office. They will happily put you in touch with the Assistant Principal, Susan Manfredi or myself as the Principal, as appropriate.
Following this line of communication helps us respond to your concerns quickly, thoughtfully, and by the right person from the start. We appreciate your partnership in making sure every concern is heard and every child is supported.
✨ And Most Importantly... Share Your Glimmer Moments!
While we have shared the best way to raise a concern, we would love to also encourage you to share the good things too. The little glimmers.
A glimmer moment might be a quick email to your child's teacher after they came home glowing about a lesson. It might be stopping a staff member in the playground to say, "thank you, that meant a lot." It might be noticing a small kindness, a moment of patience, or a spark of joy your child experienced because of something someone at school did.
I can tell you firsthand, receiving a glimmer moment email, or having a parent pause to share one with me, has been one of the most fortunate parts of my role. You have no idea the impact it has. It tells that person: I see you. What you do matters. It is making a difference.
For our educators, a shared glimmer often becomes the very best part of their day.
So please, don't just save your words for when something needs fixing. Share the glimmers too.
They cost nothing to give, and they mean everything to receive.
God bless
Emma
