MVLA
Parent BLAST - by Anita Martos -- Principal
Upcoming Events!
Two days to go!
Good morning MVLA Families!
- We are so excited to meet our new kiddos on Friday! We did have to reschedule our Meet and Greet for that afternoon at 2pm as well. I would like to just suggest that if you are a returning MVLA student, that is definitely not a required event. All returning students will get their schedules on Monday, so there is really no need to come Friday afternoon, unless you never had the chance to come see the new building.
- If you have not already done so, please log in to Parent Vue and update this year's registration. Without it, we are not able to issue schedules.
- Finally, please feel free to email me at amartos@lcps.net if you have any questions. Happy Wednesday!
- ******** MEET AND GREET RESCHEDULED!! Feel free to come by and meet the teachers at 2pm on Friday the 24th! The transition day! ********* (Apologies, the previous time conflicted with some required teacher trainings.)
- July 24th - Transition day for all students NEW to MVLA. 8:35-3:35pm
- July 27th - School Starts for everyone!
- August 4th - Open House 5:30pm
- August 27th - Educator Planning (Remote learning for students)
- August 28th - Parent Teacher Conferences (No school for students)
- September 7th - Labor Day (No school)
What supplies do we need?
For the most part, the District provides students with everything they will need for class. We have and will provide students with:
- Composition notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, markers, glue, scissors just about any other materials are needed to complete assignments.
- Student devices will be used in class, but not issued to individual students. Instead, the computers will be used only as needed here at school.
If your student would like to have something special and individualized, they are welcome to bring their own, but for the most part, we just need them to have a backpack and a water bottle and to wear appropriate clothes/shoes for school. We are in the process of planning some fun so please be on the lookout for a spirit week post. Just putting the finishing touches on it.
Let's come prepared!
1. NO ORDERING FOOD or HAVING FOOD DELIVERED (even by parents) unless that has been previously arranged with the front office. Unexpected food deliveries will be kept in the office until the end of the day.
2. We will also need to enforce a lot less food in classrooms as several of these rooms have carpet. Students will need to eat lunch in designated areas, NOT in classrooms.
3. Students MUST wear appropriate shoes for activities or they will not be allowed to participate. This campus has a lot more grassy areas.
4. That grass means there are a lot more insects. Students may want to wear bug spray or long sleeves and long pants if they know they will be outside.
How we communicate
The District has adopted the Parent Square App. This application will allow for a much greater ability for two way communication and much more efficient distribution of forms and permission slips. Please look out for an email invitation to download the app if you have not already.
PTO/SAC Committee
This year's PTO will have the additional privilege of being our School Advisory Committee. This committee will have a few additional duties and will have more communication with the District.
This year's PTO consists of the following people:
President
Rebecca Cram (parent)
Vice President
Bernadine (Nina) Hamilton )parent
Secretary
Katie Hernandez (parent)
Treasurer
Anna Robillard/Crystal Sanchez (sharing position)
Staff Members
Kris Blais
Jessica Harvey
Anita Martos
If you would also like to be involved, please let us know. You can email one of the officers or just come to our meetings. The first PTO meeting this year will be on August 13, 2026 @ 5:30 at our new building 2355 Avenida De Mesilla. Rm TBD.
The PTO communicates via the Band Ap. If you would like to join that, please click on the invite below:
Accept the invite and join the group!
Below you will find a link to teacher emails. Please note they will not be available until after July 20th. If you email them now, you will likely not receive a response. Below, you will also find the link to the MVLA website. We update that as often as possible to keep our community well informed on current events. These posts also show up on facebook.
The students handbook is updated periodically and there may be additional updates before school starts. Please be familiar with our handbook as we will be sending out a signature page indicating that you have read and understand it.
Drop Off and Pick Up
- As stated above, drop off in the morning starts at 8am and parents can drop their students off on the Boutz side of the building. Please drive from East to West and use the pick up lane as shown in the picture below. (This is actually our main entrance.)
- We will still ask for a staggered pick up in the afternoons, just as we did last year. We ask that if your student is in 6th grade you come right at 3:35. If they are 7th graders, please wait until 3:45 for pick up and 8th grade parents are asked to wait until 3:50 if at all possible. Congestion does ease once After School programs start, but in the meantime, it will be crowded. Please be patient as we get our kiddos trained to get out to their cars on time.
- We also ask that you not pick up students after 3:20. Please just wait until 3:35. If they need to leave early, please pick them up before 3:15.
Bus Transportation
If you are needing your student to ride the bus, please make sure you have indicated that in their registration in Parent Vue. If you receive messages stating you need to pick up paperwork from the office, that did not come from us.

Attendance Note Changes
This year, you will need to submit any parent notes for attendance through ParentVue. See below for instructions.
If you hear about a situation that needs addressing, but would like to report it anonymously, please use our Stop it app. This allows students, parents or any community member to report concerns without the fear of retaliation or embarrassment.
