Reminders for CAS Community Reminders for CAS Community

  • 1. Toys: We have noticed many students bringing toys to school, including items such as Legos, Pokémon cards, squishy toys, and other similar items. Please remember that toys are not allowed in school. The only exception is approved fidgets that have been agreed upon with the teacher or support team.

  • 2. Teacher's Parking Lot: Please do not pull into the teacher parking lot. The only times parents are permitted to enter the lot are before 7:45 a.m. or after 3:45 p.m.

  • 3. Idling: Please avoid idling your vehicles. We have noticed some parents parking and walking their children to the drop-off area while leaving their cars running. For safety and environmental reasons, we ask that vehicles be turned off.

  • 4. Lunch: If your child purchases lunch at school, please continue to check your Pomptonian account balances through the PayForIt portal. It would also be helpful for students to learn their six-digit lunch number to make the purchasing process smoother.

Read Across America is happening! Read Across America is happening!

CAS celebrated it's annual reading train on Friday 3/6. For the last 15 minutes of school, everyone in CAS sat in the hallway to form a train and read quietly for 15 minutes. They were also visited by Mr. Paradiso and the Blue Tiger, who was passing out bookmarks and giving lots of high fives!

Schedule of events are continuing throughout March!

We also had our annual author visit with Scholastic Author Sam Wedelich on Tuesday. Sam read her popular “Chicken Little” books and taught the students how to illustrate her characters! We had an incredible day of reading and drawing with Sam!

And finally, The FDU men’s soccer team visited CAS on Wednesday to guest read “Flat Cat:Class Pet” by former author visit author Tara Lazar. The soccer players were accompanied around the building by 5th grade Student Council Members! Great job student council!

Looking Ahead: Grades 3–5 New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) Looking Ahead: Grades 3–5 New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA)

This spring, students in grades 3–5 will participate in the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA), which measure progress in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science and help guide instructional planning across the state. The testing schedule is as follows: Grade 5 Science on April 28 & 29; Mathematics (Grades 3–5) on May 5, 6, & 7; and ELA (Grades 3–5) on May 19, 20, & 21.

Beginning this year, the traditional NJSLA will transition to the NJSLA-Adaptive, a computer-adaptive assessment that adjusts question difficulty in real time to better measure each student’s strengths while continuing to assess the same New Jersey Student Learning Standards. The Department of Education is hosting Parent Virtual Information Sessions to provide more details; please review the Parent Information Session Flyer for dates and times. Additional information about testing procedures and preparation tips will be shared soon. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students’ success.

This is a brand-new, evolving role!
