Our Fight Song: "We're the Riot!" Our Fight Song: "We're the Riot!"

The Story Behind “The Riot”

During the 2015–2016 school year, Providence Hall High School was still finding its identity. At just two years old, PHHS was young and ready to build traditions that would last. That year’s Student Body President, Sierra Banner, made it her mission to boost school spirit. With encouragement from then–Student Council Advisor Kim Littler and Assistant Principal Ms. McPhail, the Student Council was challenged to create a school cheer and name the student section.

Under Sierra’s leadership, StuCo created the now-famous school-wide cheer, ’Sup, Patriots? Then, in a stroke of genius, they realized that if you took the word Patriot and dropped the “Pat,” you got Riot—the perfect name for a student section ready to get loud, proud, and a little wild with school spirit.

The journey to create more school traditions didn’t stop there. Since 2014, a rotating team of band and choir teachers had been working toward creating an official fight song. Last school year, that dream became a reality. Ms. Beckenbach (StuCo), Coach Brown (Cheer), Ms. Leach (Band), Ms. Hansen (Choir), Coach Benson (Co–Athletic Director), Ms. T. Benson (Admin. Assistant), Mr. Marshall (Executive Director), and Ms. McPhail (Principal) came together to co-create and finalize our very first official school fight song.

With a fight song in hand, there’s no better time to launch this new tradition than during the inaugural year of our new sports stadium.

Let’s make some noise, Patriots—The Riot lives on!

Special thanks to Ms. Hansen, who edited the music, and to both Ms. Hansen and Ms. Leach, who were the primary creative forces behind the music and lyrics.
