Tools to Help Your Students Create Bibliographies
This article from Richard Byrne has tools to help your students create quality bibliographies.
- Google Docs includes citation tool that makes most citation add-ons redundant. With citation tool in Google Docs you can create MLA, APA, and Chicago style citations directly in Google Docs without the need for a third-party add-on.
- Microsoft Word users have a couple of options available to them when it comes to getting help with bibliography formatting. First, Word has a built-in reference tab in which you can choose the style for your bibliography and then simply enter the requested information to have your bibliography created for you. The other option is to use the EasyBib add-in for Word. The EasyBib add-in for Word will generate citations and bibliographies from links and book titles.
- Bibcitation is a free tool that supports dozens of citation styles. To use Bibcitation select the type of resource that you're citing and then enter the requested information.
- QuickCite is a free tool that helps students create properly formatted MLA 8 citations. QuickCite can also be used by students to create informal citations for use in things like blog posts, slideshows, and videos.
- Formatically is a free tool that was designed by college students to help other students create properly formatted works cited pages. To use Formatically's instant citation tool just paste the URL of the page that you want to cite into the instant citation tool.
A Fun History/ Biography Project in Keynote
Below is a tutorial I created a few years ago on how to do a unique biography project using Keynote on a Mac or iPad. It's not too complicated, and quite fun. For the tutorial, I worked on an iPad.
Earth Day Coding Activity: Grades 6-8
Protecting Our Oceans From Elementari
Explore the global issue of plastic pollution in the ocean and learn how to code an interactive, educational app. Students will research environmental facts, write with purpose, and code animations and interactive features to raise awareness about how plastic affects marine life—and what we can do to help. This lesson integrates literacy, science, and basic computer science principles.

LG CreateBoard Corner: Exporting Notes to Students
One of the best tools on the CreateBoard is the quick export of any Notes from class. Simply click on the "share' on the bottom left and generate a QR code which sends a copy of the entire Notes file. No more stressing about writing everything down! Students can listen and then get the Notes later.
Instant QR Code Creator
We recently had a Middle School Project Based Learning Showcase where our students were sharing their work with an audience. Each student had to create their own QR code to link to their work. This Chrome Extension tool from Browser Native works like a charm! No need to go to another website, just click on the icon on Chrome and it creates a QR code linking to whatever website you are on. Save it or take a screen shot.
Quick Tip: Deleting all at once
Did you know to select the entire field or address of a web page, you triple click? Yup! Click three times, then you can delete the whole address at once.
