Scholarships and Midterm Grades

Aanii Students!

Aaniish naa gegiiwok! How are you all doing? I hope your Fall term is going well and that you are utilizing resources available to you at your school! If you don't know what those resources are, please check in with Indigenous Student Services to find out more information or to let them know what type of service or resource you need.

Please read the following reminders as you approach the halfway point of the term:

Scholarships/Bursaries

This is your friendly reminder to seek out and apply for any extra resources through scholarships/bursaries offered at your school, through financial aid, and we also have a list of resources on our web page at www.wbe-education.ca. This extra assistance could make a world of difference if you require extra coverage for special equipment/supplies, help with home-related expenses, and so on. Most applications ask for the same criteria so create an initial package and tweak it for each new scholarship or bursary application! You can also enter a search online. A link to the Indspire Scholarships and Bursaries page has been provided immediately below this section. Good luck and happy hunting!

Midterm Grades

Time is passing very quickly and soon it will be time to write midterm exams if you haven't started already. This is a friendly reminder that midterm grade reports (college) and midterm course progress screenshots (university), are due in the Outcomes portal on Friday, November 14th! If we do not receive uploads from you or do not hear from you regarding your midterm progress, your sponsorship will be held until communication is received. It takes less than 10 minutes to upload your grade or progress information to the portal or to update your Navigator with a quick email regarding the submission of your grades if they're going to be late for whatever reason. We look forward to hearing from you!

Take me to the Indspire Scholarships & Bursaries Page!

FAQs re: Midterm Grades and More! FAQs re: Midterm Grades and More!

Midterm Grades are due. But what if I don't receive a grade report?

If you don't have access to a midterm grade report then we are asking students to submit screenshots of your progress in each individual class from your schools Learning Management System (e.g. Blackboard, Desire2Learn aka D2L, Canvas, etc.). Screenshot the assignment grades and paste them into Microsoft Word saving them as a pdf file and then upload them into the portal. Please remember to label your uploads accordingly (ex. Fall Midterm Grades).

What if my instructors haven't uploaded my grades or they're going to be updated after the deadline date?

If you don't have any grades to submit yet or you were informed by your instructors that your grades are going to be late, then please email your Post-Secondary Navigator and briefly explain the situation and if possible, provide an approximate date when they will be available.

What happens if I forgot to upload my grades or I forget to communicate late grade submissions to my Navigator by the deadline date?

If we do not receive any portal uploads from you by the midterm deadline date of November 14th, your sponsorship will be suspended until we hear from you. Once we hear from you, the suspension will be released and you will have access to sponsorship immediately. Any held deposits will be moved to the next available cheque date. A reminder that the cheque schedule is available in the portal under "Site Documents". Documents are due a week before the next available cheque date.

What happens if I am struggling academically by midterm?

If you appear to be struggling academically or even failing some courses, there is time to access academic supports. Please reach out to your academic advisor at school or Indigenous Student Services to see if they can provide extra support, recommendations, access to tutoring and so on.

Also discuss the situation with your Navigator who can give you advanced notice of any potential consequences with sponsorship should the struggle continue to the end of term.

What if I want to drop any courses or withdraw from my program?

Before you make any decisions, please discuss your situation with your Navigator to discover any potential impacts on sponsorship. You can make an informed decision after you have been provided with some options.

The above are just some examples of potential questions that may arise as the term progresses. If your question isn't listed, please contact your Navigator to inquire about your particular situation. Miigwech and we wish you continued success in your Fall term!
